Book Description

Tomaso Albinoni (1671-1751) is familiar as a Venetian composer, a contemporary of Vivaldi's, and as one of the first composers of concertos, many of which are frequently performed today. His vocal music, however, has been unjustly neglected. This book presents new information on Albinoni's unusual life and interesting details of the Venetian environment and music at the time. Talbot includes a detailed analytic study of the vocal music and a discussion and listing of several newly discovered works. From this objective assessment of his art, Albinoni emerges as a composer with a highly original vision whose music deserves to be better known.

Editorial Reviews

Review

From the hardback:

'one of the most successful examples of ths genre to emerge in English in the past few years ... It reveals the clarity of thought, the propriety of style and idea, and the impeccable attention to detail viewed in breadth as well as in depth that have become the hallmarks of Professor Talbot's scholarship ... Professor Talbot's book makes us see that Albinoni's works deserve a greater hearing than they at present receive - his vocal as well as his instrumental works. This admirable study may well encourage the sort of platform they deserve.'
