- "I gave my iPod Touch to my fiance's 3 year old sister and she could not put it down." (AmpedGaming.com review)
- "Parents need to know that Giraffe's PreSchool Playground is a cheerful educational app that includes six games to
teach ABCs and numbers, seek-and-find skills, and animal names. The Photo Playground is a picture-making game and
kids can make their own animal scenes and save them to the device's photo gallery...The app is very easy and
intuitive, with big simple buttons to press and a little cartoon giraffe who provides spoken instructions."
(Common Sense Media review)

has really been kept busy for some time with this app. I recommend!"

surprised by how much he loves the song 'Monkey Got Away', he will open the app just to hear the song over and over
again. Thanks so much for offering the free mp3 download!"
- "Wonderful for special needs! Thank you for creating such a wonderful application. We are using it to work with

Downloading this app as the FAOTD is always a plus. And yes, this app will help your child learn how to identify the ABCs and numbers 1-20. However, at what cost? The most visually identifiable button on the first screen to the eye (especially a child's eye) is the OPTIONS button. Why did the developer place the "START" button (colored in light blue) against a light blue sky making it almost transparent? This gives easy access to the internet to a child. Unless you plan to have them in your lap, or looking over their shoulder constantly, turning off your device's WiFi is a very good idea.

The "FREE" song that can be downloaded in the options menu, results in the app trying to access your personal account information, contacts, and email. This was not disclosed in the "permissions" on the product's description page on the date this review was written. I find it hard to believe this was an oversight. Apps do not perform functions that are not intended on their own, and even if it was so-called "left-over code" from another app, this shows very poor quality control on a children's app.

The only reason this app did not get a complete 1 star review from me is the fact this app will function WITHOUT internet. That is all well-and-good but at the end of the day, parents will not always remember to turn off the wireless connection for their device, thus turning over their:

- personal account information
- contact information
- email account access
- Amazon App Store access

This app works properly on my Kindle Fire HD 8.9, so the developer has indeed corrected issues listed by reviewers 2 years ago. If not for the surrendering of personal information, I would have given this app 4 stars easily for the targeted user group of 3-5 years of age.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! March 18, 2012

Okay, I don't pay for a lot of apps, but my daughter loved the memory game by this developer, so I thought.what the heck, I'll give it a shot. For $.99 what can it hurt? It's fantastic! My three year old reads and does math at an elevated level, but she's still three, so older apps are often too old and younger apps are typically boring. This app has so much variety and isn't all straight math and reading. It also trains spacial reasoning and object placement. She loves decorating the rooms and animal habitats. This is by and far the best app for tiddler's I've ever seen. And it's one heck of a bang for your buck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Son loves this game. March 31, 2012

We really enjoy this app, at least once I get my son to start playing and stop listening to the theme song! The only complaint that I have is that it's too easy, my son just turned 2 and has mastered all of the games, so while he is still having fun I can no longer say that he is learning. Perhaps you could add an option to go up to 100 with the numbers and select letters based on sound rather than just name? And even more types of animals or perhaps rather than just find the kangaroo or the frog how about which animal is a marsupial or amphibian for a higher level of play, my son would just love that and science is important for preschoolers as well! I love to hear my little guy tell me that koalas eat eucalyptus and pandas eat bamboo, wish there were apps that supported a young interest in science. Oh, one last thing that would be cool is a choice between the abc song and a counting song in the song room. OK, obviously there are tons of things you could add to any game, but those that I mentioned would work well with what you've already got... or maybe I should write my own app, lol. Either way, thanks for the great product, we love it and it's lots of fun!

You guys should really make a kindergarten app as well, we are ready and waiting!

3.0 out of 5 stars Just too Much Code Baggage July 3, 2014
Verified Purchase
Is it me, or does the product description on the Amazon Website read like an infomercial? And although the most recent update says "Updated to remove unused code/libraries, resulting in a bit smaller file size for the app", it still carries a lot of extra junk, including full Facebook SDK code, an analytics module called Mixpanel, Google IAP, another live crash reporting code module, and more. These weren't counted as unused? Yeesh.

Now to be fair, there isn't any Facebook or IAP presence in this children's app, so I assume they are vestigial leftovers from a coding shell that the developer Tomato Interactive used. However, Mixpanel Analytics is a different ball of wax. Purportedly the "most powerful analytics available" (ya, I looked it up on official website) and contending with Flurry and Google Analytics for top dog spot, does such a heavyweight Analytics module really need to be in an app aimed at toddlers? What, need to find out which consonant seems to be lil Suzy's favorite?

And to top it off, big ole Option button has unlocked linking to the Amazon App Store and your default email program. Be sure to turn off your WiFi on your device before handing over to your child, which is probably a decent idea anyways. This app just raises my hackles, especially with Network Access sending Analytics datum back on its own and all that extraneous code.

As well intended as Tomato Interactive may be, no children's app should be carrying adult code baggage. Sure, I generally give most cases of analytics a pass, depending on requested permissions, but not when a 3 year old is trying to learn counting up to nine.
