Book Description

July 20, 2004
In 1922, Lord Earl Carnarvon financed the Egyptian expedition that unearthed King Tut's tomb. While the fact that the dig gained a reputation for being "cursed" is well known, Mathias Fowler slipped away into anonymity. Fowler, an American on the team, had grown obsessed with the Ancient Egyptians and when he returned to the States it was with several stolen artifacts in tow. Fowler had become so consumed by the era that when he died, he killed all of his household staff and had them buried in his mansion with him - a modern day Pharaoh's Tomb. Almost 60 years after Fowler's death, Jessica Parrish, archeologist and would-be-Indiana Jones, has been hired to assemble and lead a team into the house to take back the missing pieces and disable the booby traps that have already cost one unfortunate group their lives. Can Parrish and her comrades navigate the elaborate deathtraps with their persons intact or will the curse of Tut's tomb just add to its mounting body count?

This review is from: The Tomb (Paperback)
It is basically a B&W comic book.
Its like a cross between a female Indiana Jones and a ghost story.
I liked it.

3.0 out of 5 stars As good as a movie, March 5, 2007
This review is from: The Tomb (Paperback)
The tomb written by the team of Nunzio Defilippis and Christina Weir and illustrated by Christopher J. Mitten is an adventure story combining a haunted house with Indiana Jones.

Jessica Parrish, an archeologist, currently unemployed for trying to do the right thing and being caught by the wrong people, is contacted to help look into a "haunted" mansion into which at least two people have disappeared. The reason she's asked to do this, and the reason she takes the job, is because the mansion used to belong to Mathais Fowler, the "missing" man from the famous cursed expediton to King Tut's Tomb in 1922.

She is accompanied by a former student of hers, a former colleague, a reporter and his assistant, and the current owner of the mansion, a US Senator. Together they encounter deadly booby traps and ghosts as they search the house, which is made up to look like an ancient Egyptian tomb. And, predictably, the Senator knows more about the curse of the mansion he bought than he's letting on.

The black-and white artwork is lacking in value ranges and rendering, and at times is difficult to read what's happening in some of the panels. Some of the characters are visually distinct from each other, but others can be hard to tell apart at times. But overall it holds together.

The story is fun, though predictable. The artwork is good, but would have been better with tonal values or colors. All in all, I'd say this is as entertaining as any haunted house movie.
