5.0 out of 5 stars Not-So-Great Movie; EXCELLENT SOUNDTRACK! Nab it!

This soundtrack is one of Silvestri's best to date. It is full of emotion, action, and wonderful ochestral themes. From the asian flutes from the movie's Chinese scenes, to the techno beats of the action sequences, to the melodic melancholy of the BEST track "Pandora's Box," this CD is worth every penny.

3.0 out of 5 stars cheated...
A good soundtrack... just as good as the dvd with a home theatre system.... but it's not all there..
where's the music from "Lab Scene" ? a 'Terminator' style piece that was probably the most exciting bit of music in the movie.... it's listed on the dvd...as it was written specially for the movie..... but it's not on the soundtrack.

In my opinion, it trumps even the latter two Lord of the Rings scores (both of which only shone on the Rohirrim tracks; Fellowship was a different story).

No matter what your qualms are regarding the Lara Croft franchise, or the films, this score is a RARE GEM! Nab it if you see it! We searched through TWELVE STORES to finally nab it at a Border's booksellers (the third we searched in Chicago).

4.0 out of 5 stars Silvestri Strikes Again, August 27, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (Score) (Audio CD)
My first impression upon listening to this CD was that it didn't sound like Alan Silvestri at all. The percussion and guitar in particular make certain cues sound more like Hans Zimmer's Media Ventures groupies than the Alan Silvestri I'm used to (not to say that that's a bad thing). However, once the action really gets going, the Silvestri-esque horns, strings and vocals come through in spades, giving us some high-octane themes similar to Mr. Silvestri's other epic projects. This by far is the best commercial Alan Silvestri release since the Mummy Returns, reminding us all why he's one of the best in the business. With a perfect blend of modern percussion, hard-hitting brass, and a variety of ethnic instruments, Silvestri once again displays his versatility with 60 minutes of pulse-pounding action. Whether you liked the movie, didn't like the movie, or never even saw the movie (such as the case with me), you won't be disappointed with Alan Silvestri's latest masterpiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome! Silvestri gives his best!, October 8, 2003

I got this CD today, and I didn't listen to it very much yet, although I know that I'm gonna listen to it for a long, long time! Alan Silvestri gave us the best soundtrack he could. The music is really great. You should listen to it after watching the movie - the memories from the Cradle will come to you faster than you could imagine. This score really gives you the climat of Tomb Raider. Your money won't be wasted!

4.0 out of 5 stars Soundtrack sounds, November 29, 2003
This review is from: Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (Score) (Audio CD)
One of the musical themes in both Tomb Raiders is the odd 'buzz-buzz whistling' sounds referred to by one of the reviewers..
this is not an instrument... it's 'throat music' from Tuva. (Morth of China) made by the human voice. for more of that check 'Yat Kha - Dalai Beldiri' music from Tuva.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than Pirates!, October 22, 2003

This is quite pleasant surprise from Alan Silvestri.
It shows he can give Media Ventures a run for the money.
Think of what Alan could have done with Pirates of the Caribbean
if Jerry "Shmuckheimer" didn't fire him.

4.0 out of 5 stars Silvestri Sets Lara Croft Right, September 18, 2003

One of the weaknesses of the first Lara Croft adventure was that its score lacked a solid musical signiture by which audiences could identify the Tomb Raider. The obvious contrast is John Williams and his "Raiders of the Lost Ark" theme for Indiana Jones. Alan Silvestri goes a long way to remedy this problem with his score (don't bother with the soundtrack album)for "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life." "Cradle" is a better project across the board than the first Tomb Raider installment and much of the credit must go to Silvestri for his upbeat and exciting score. A clear and memorable theme emerges in the first track and ties the score together in various forms throughout the recording. Secondary themes also appear with able accents from percussion. The eleventh cut, "Journey to the Cradle of Life" is somewhat inclusive of most of the themateic material and is one of the highlights of this album. This score makes one wonder what Silvestri might have done with the summer's other adventure hit "Pirates of the Caribbean." It would be interesting to know what happened in that case. Silvestri's score is a vital part of "Cradle of Life" and provides a very good experience as a CD recording. Very nicely produced and packaged by Varese.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent soundtrack, January 30, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (Score) (Audio CD)
The cradle of life is a fantastic masterpiece of original motion picture soundtracks. This cd has everything that most soundtrack lovers would like. Most noteable on this cd is the track "Pandora's Box". This song has so many emotions its hard to explain. This track will leave you breathless because of its emotion. I recommend this cd for all people who love soundtracks.
