5.0 out of 5 stars The #1 TOMB RAIDER III Strategy Guide.
Ahh, Lara Croft. Ever the adventurer, ever the explorer, and ever the game-maker. And for her latest adventure, you need this strategy guide. Kip Ward is the best authority on the Tomb Raider series, and the screenshots and comprehensive hints will make you pleased about your purchase. If you're having trouble beating that level, or can't seem to find that darn key,...

This guide was not helpful. The instructions that tell you where to go are definatly... NOT CLEAR! An example, "Jump down and grab the ledge" When you actually have to: Shimmy left, Jump down, turn right, THEN grab the ledge. I actually give this guide 0 stars, but I couldn't do that... 1.0 out of 5 stars NOT A HELPFUL GUIDE!, December 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Tomb Raider III: Prima's Official Strategy Guide (Paperback)
For the most part Prima guide books are very helpful, however (and that's a big however), this guide book falls short. There are many omissions (for example, a very important secret is nowhere to be found) and the narration and screen shots jump around and are not easy to follow. I do not recommend this book at all. Save your money and go online if you want more a comprehensive walkthrough.

3.0 out of 5 stars GREAT, if you've beat it!, October 27, 1999
By A Customer

The extremly hard content and often mixed up pictures makes this a hard to follow book for beginners. Unless you have already played and have advanced to other levels, I suggest not going to the book right away. Or at least read the book a few times before proceding.

3.0 out of 5 stars GREAT if your a pro, not as good if your not!, October 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Tomb Raider III: Prima's Official Strategy Guide (Paperback)
The book is great if you have beaten the game, maybe, 3 TIMES!! Otherwise, you'll probably be lost by the 9th page. The pictures help, but sometimes are not even correctly corresponding to the level! Many errors are in the book. Overall, the book is ok. I definitely recommend reading the book about 3 times BEFORE you start playing.

3.0 out of 5 stars The secrets are kept a secret., January 2, 2003

This book is...ok.

The only quam i have with it is, there's about 6 secrets that aren't even put in the book. And for those of you who do know, Tomb Raider III contains a secret level called "All Hallows" which is accessable only if you find all 60 of 59 secrets. (no, that's not a typo.)

...ok four. Now let me think...There's 1 missing in "Temple Ruins", 1 in "The River Ganges", 1 in "Mudubu Gorge", and if you're going crazy trying to find that one in "Aldwych", its in the same room you get into with the "Ornate Star". Just turn around and look up.

The only reason i did this is because we're waiting patiently for the "Angel of Darkness" to come out. But if you get bored...try getting all the secrets, because "All Hallows" is kinda fun.

But yeah...the book gives good hints and tips on how to get through the game, and places to find medi-paks and ammo and all that good stuff.

So, if you're buying a used one, i'd definately recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not As Good As the First Two, March 18, 2002
By
glamiss "glamiss" (Minneapolis, MN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tomb Raider III: Prima's Official Strategy Guide (Paperback)
While this book CAN be helpful, it's not as well planned or as well written as the first two Tomb Raider guides from Prima. It's easy to see why Prima decided not to continue to print this book, as its walkthrough is sparsely populated with pictures or words, comparatively. The problem with this book, as opposed to the first two, is that it almost always skips over how to get every pickup, or which items are traps or simply larks - useless to go after.

There is another book I have, "The Tomb Raider Companion," but I've misplaced it recently. I bought the Prima version, finally, because I liked the first two Prima guides and because the Companion is too wordy with not ENOUGH pictures. This makes it sometimes difficult to discern Lara's position or positioning within the game. But this review is about the Prima version; although written by the same author as the first two, it seems either that the editors decided to print less or that Mr. Ward decided that it wasn't necessary to write more. Reading over some of the other articles posted, it's difficult to understand why they thought that there was too much writing. The other book, the "Tomb Raider Companion", THAT book is too wordy...

All in all, this book is good for those who want to explore more on their own and rely less on someone else's writings, and perhaps that's why this is so much less informative than the Tomb Raider and Tomb Raider II walkthrough guides -- but if someone just wanted small hints at various steps of the game, they would probably just look it up online or ask a friend instead of buying this particular walkthrough.

1.0 out of 5 stars Buy a different Book!, July 23, 2000

This book will not help you beat the game. Especially if you're trying to get to the secret level at the end. It doesn't show all of the secrets like it's supposed to, and the secret's that it does show, aren't explained very briefly. I expected better after the Tomb Raider 2 strategy guide, which was written by the exact same author, and was a lot better. I would recommend that you go to a book store and take a look at what's inside some of the other manuals before you order.

4.0 out of 5 stars Take this Prima Strategy Guide for all it's worth!, March 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Tomb Raider III: Prima's Official Strategy Guide (Paperback)
This guide has some pitfalls, but all in all, I think it has every thing a kid needs to complete TRIII. By the way, I am an old guy @ 38 years. I've been playing TR for 2 years now and have followed Laura through thick and thin. I also have the cheat codes for TRIII, TRII and TR. Without these, you ain't gona make it. Also, most kids are not patient enough to complete the levels in the TR series. My persistence is what got me this far along with Prima's Guide!

1.0 out of 5 stars ***WARNING DO NOT BUY THIS***, December 29, 1998
This review is from: Tomb Raider III: Prima's Official Strategy Guide (Paperback)
This book is less than a one star, I give it a minus 3. This is one of the worst books for gaming strategy that I have ever come across. It has some terrible screen shots(thank goodness that there were very few) and the the explainations were worse! The layout of these minute screen shots makes following or even finding your may close to impossible!!!
