It's more than just a guide,
By
This review is from: Tomb Raider: Legend: The Complete Official Guide (Paperback)
Inevadibly, as with most Tomb Raider games, most players need to use the guide. While for Legends, the game is pretty straightforward enough that you don't really need a guide, but if you're a perfectionist who likes to know where ~every~ secret of the game is then this book is for you. Certainly, you don't need to know where all of the secrets are to get through the game, but hey...if you want to see Lara run around in a near skin toned bikini you have to know what to do to get that, right? (And yes the game does have a near skin toned bikini for Lara to wear).
But it tells you more than just how to move the blocks around properly to see her in a bikini, there is also he story of the evolution of the game from the first 1996 adventure to the present and a 12 page behind the scenes look at the present game. Unlike some of the previous TR guides that are somewhat hard to follow, this has a format that is certainly easy to follow, which includes maps and notes on specific problem areas. All in all, well worth the extra few bucks you put out for the game and the book.

Now THIS is a Guide ... A REAL Guide That is Worthy!,
By
This review is from: Tomb Raider: Legend: The Complete Official Guide (Paperback)
I own quite a few official game guides (about 15) which range everywhere from poor to excellent. While mostly all of them are of a high quality VISUALLY, not all of them are of a high quality TEXTUALLY (ie: actually help you and show / tell you things that you wouldn't know otherwise). Sometimes, they are not much more than a glorified manual with some very high-level steps (hints) to follow.
This guide does well VISUALLY and TEXTUALLY, and does them the best that I have encountered so far. The detail in this guide is unsurpassed (most important quality for me). Combined with excellent presentation, layout, and quantity of material, this guide just screams quality, and in my bold opinion, is worthy of a higher price tag. I don't know if it is a job well done by Piggyback Interactive, the authors, editors, or a total team effort, but quite simply, this is the best I've seen yet.

The guide does a wonderful job of taking you through the game as well as giving you the 'secret' object locations. I would have given it a 4.5/5 if that were on option. There are some things that you must read in the game manual (the biggest one is to use the "grip" button (E on the PC version) when Lara does not have a strong grip on a ledge...if you do not you fall...always). The book shows the moves in the PS2/Xbox controls and not the PC (generally speaking). No question about it though I had used the guide in a few spots to continue the game.

Tomb Raider Legend Guide,

Hi, I'm a lover of Tomb Raider. I've played many of the Tomb Raider games. The last one out; Legend, is very fun and even better then the tomb raider games before. The other Tomb Raider games gave you a phone number to call incase you got stuck. Tomb Raider Legend does not have that. Your best bet is to get Tomb Raider:Legend:The Complete Official Guide. This way you will not miss anything and if you can't figure something out and you've spent hours on it, you can cheat and find out how to do whatever it is you're trying to do or get through. Before purchasing the book I was told of a few different web sites where I could find answers to my questions I have about Legend. Unfortunately, that did not work for me. I'm very happy to have purchased The Complete Official Guide, for Tomb Raider Legend. It's made the game much more enjoyable, even more so than it already was!Tomb Raider: Legend: The Complete Official Guide

This is just what I needed. Being new to the Tomb Raider series, I was in need of something to help me with the in's and out's of the game. With the guide, I have been able to get farther into the game in 3 days than I had managed in 2 months without it.

I bought this book almost a year after I bought and played the game. First of all, there is only 1 down-side on this book, I expected more page filling art works, scetches, of pictures of the locations. Sure they are in it too, but small and too few.
But never the less, don't let this spoil the book, because for the rest I found it very handy (and nice) to read. It's written in a funny way, clearly by somebody who also enjoyed playing the game and writing this book, Everything is explained in a clear way, making it sound almost too easy to get all the hidden treasures, and what I also found helpfull was a map of every level, in clear detail, where to find what, how to get there, what to find there. And ofcourse all the unlockable secrets of the game itself. All together I am very happy with the purchase of this book

Tomb Raider quide,
This review is from: Tomb Raider: Legend: The Complete Official Guide (Paperback)
The Guide is easy to use, many good photos. Am able to follow the walk thru easily.
The only problem I found was that when ordering it did not indicate that the guide was not set up for Camecube use. I am still able to use but if that info had been in the discription I could have then ordered the proper book. Thank you. Cherie

Beautiful Graphics, Good Info, but....,

This is a gorgeous guide with full color pages, big detailed maps and lots of information. The first 24 pages are just instructions on Lara's moves. The book is beautiful with great photos of the action (wish they were a little bigger on some pages). This was the only Guide I found for the Legend game. It is also VERY text heavy and requires a lot of reading. This is the first Guide I've had by Piggyback, most of my guides are Prima and Bradygames. Nice sophisticated layout and you can tell they spent a lot of time, money and effort in the design of the book.
My only quibble is the amount of text in the book. It would be great if the sentences and instructions were shortened. You could then increase the text size making it easier to read. For example, on page 55 there is a full paragraph (80 words) on "Shooting from Distance." I think it could have been summed up with half the words, such as: "If using standard automatic aim you are not likely to hit distant targets (targeting cursor will be gray). Switch to Manual Aim and you can shoot longer distance with greater accuracy. Manual aim is best used with non-moving targets." Beautiful, well organized, thorough info. I give it a 4.45 |
