3.0 out of 5 stars Great Classic
A must have for your collection as the first Tomb Raider game. This game can be a lot of fun with all the puzzles and different enemy types. I personally like it, but find the controls slow and sluggish. Though it's a great game in content it's not one I plan on finishing.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Original to a Fantastic Series, June 19, 2002

From the ruins of Rome to the futuristic setting of Atlantis, Tomb Raider takes the gamer through a variety of wonderful worlds. Unlike its sequels, it stays in the tombs and out of other settings. I believe that it is one of the best games ever made, and it certainly is a classic. However, I believe that its sequels (though not for Saturn) in many aspects overshadow it.

The scenery in Tomb Raider is better than most games, although it is mostly cubed and flat. The game play and plot are wonderful, and the graphics and sounds are acceptable. However, the artificial intelligence enemies are less than intelligent, and the gamer is often left feeling underestimated with the ease of some of the puzzles. Laura's moves are limited, and the weapons supply is less than perfect. The bonus levels present in the gold version are a lot of fun to play, but they add little to the game's plot.

I would recommend this game to any fan of the Tomb Raider series and to the average gamer. However, I do feel that other versions have better qualities. Tomb Raider II offers wonderful AI and is perhaps the best for a gamer seeking combat. Tomb Raider III combines the better aspects of the previous two, and Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation offers the best plot and character mobility. If you are looking to stay in the tombs, or if you are not into puzzles, stick with this game. However, don't miss out on the other great qualities the Tomb Raider series offers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Of All Versions, September 29, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Tomb Raider (Video Game)
Tomb Raider for the Sega Saturn was unbelievably overlooked. It was the best of all versions. The controls are to put them simply dead on. The best controls I've used to date. It has become one of my favorite games of all time and is a true classic. Sega Saturn is really overlooked for having such main stream titles. Tomb Raider, Wipeout, Resident Evil, Sonic and more. Get this game. I just played it last year and even though its not the graphical powerhouse it was in the mid 1990's it is an amazing port and classic!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Only 1 Review?, June 24, 2006

Theres only 1 review for this version - and i must say - this is the best version. Playstations version didnt hold up to this one - nor the Windows 95 version (yea...old game)anyway, this game got me hooked on the series - until i was sickened by the newer ones (they suck horribly) the graphics were awesome in this game (now, with todays technology - they're laughable) but this game is the original relase, and the best of the series. give this version a try - its a blast.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tomb Raider: Sega Saturn Original, March 3, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Tomb Raider (Video Game)
Many people remember Tomb Raider (TR) on the Sony Play Station. TR I-III are some of the games that made Sony's first system a hit. What most people don't know is that this game released on Sega Saturn and PC first. So when you see people refer to the Saturn version as a port, they are incorrect. It was the original release.

This is an amazing game no matter the system! The graphics are dated. If you want the original experience or the first TR game in your collection of games, buy this. If you want an updated version, check out TR: Anniversary. It is the same game on an updated game engine with a new visual graphic overhaul.

I'am approaching this from my point of view & if you don't like a challenging game like me you casual gamers need to stay away. Here we go Tomb Raider for the Sega Saturn it has 15 levels & about 5 or 6 of them are from hë**. It's not a bad game it's just something I wouldn't be playing a whole lot don't expect to beat it in 1 sitting I remember this game on the Playstation I never made it that far I beat it & got an ending that was almost mediocre. I finally got a new review in but next month I've got a lot of reviews planned that are Christmas related & btw happy Thanksgiving.

first of all, this version was overlooked for a reason...it sucked!!!

the playstation version was by far, and still is the best one ever made

and played...hands down.i cant remember the name of the level. but there's a level where a boulder comes rolling down after lara.well guess

what...you cant hear it on the saturn version, wtf.then there's the problem with the lighting(in game).on the playstation version you walk up to these crystals, you can see your reflection in might i add.and save your game.saturn version, its just a dull a** looking crystal floating.

so you see there is a reason this version was overlooked.
