5.0 out of 5 stars Tombstone
As a freelance historical research photographer, I thoroughly enjoyed the written and photographic aspects of this book. This book on Tombstone has been very well researched and provides the reader with the necessary information without becoming a college textbook. It also provides the reader with numerous photos to accompany the written information. It is a nice addition...

2.0 out of 5 stars Great photos but rife with inaccuracies
Jane Eppinga tackles Tombstone in the Images of America series and comes up with a visually pleasing but factually inaccurate endeavor.

Eppinga delves into Tombstone's early days, both related and non-related to the OK Corral gunfight, most notably giving a nod to Fort Huachuca and it's importance to southern Arizona.

In the OK Corral section,...

This review is from: Tombstone (Images of America: Arizona) (Paperback)
Jane Eppinga tackles Tombstone in the Images of America series and comes up with a visually pleasing but factually inaccurate endeavor.

Eppinga delves into Tombstone's early days, both related and non-related to the OK Corral gunfight, most notably giving a nod to Fort Huachuca and it's importance to southern Arizona.

In the OK Corral section, she makes several errors: she refers to Bat Masterson as "Pat"; she states that Virgil Earp was ambushed 2 weeks after the OK Corral gunfight (it was about 2 months); that Morgan Earp's wife Louisa accompanied his casket back to California (she was in California when Morgan was murdered and remained there until his body arrived); that during the OK Corral shootout, Frank McLaury wounded Virgil Earp in the arm, "leaving it useless for life" (Virgil suffered a calf wound at the OK Corral...the crippling of his arm happened during the above-mentioned ambush); that Judge Wells Spicer drowned in 1881 (Spicer disappeared in 1887...most believed it was suicide).

The book is worth buying just for the photos (though she skimps in some spots by using photos that are far lower quality than the same photos in other books), but the buyer is warned regarding the shoddy fact checking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Done, August 19, 2007
This review is from: Tombstone (Images of America: Arizona) (Paperback)
Too often history is presented as simply names and dates. What makes this book so interesting is seeing the pictures with the names. It's so nice to have a visual reference, and seeing images of the actual people made them more real and gave me a sense of their personalities. Well done!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great source for picture, June 13, 2007

This review is from: Tombstone (Images of America: Arizona) (Paperback)
At first I was reluctant to buy this book because most books have the same picture of the same things and the same people. This book had pictures of everything from buildings to people. The author includes a brief description for each photo and it was really enjoyable to read. However, if you are a history buff most of the descriptions/stories are nothing new.

Overall, good book and great pictures.
