Having read almost everything available on the town of Tombstone, and having spent many weeks exploring it, Sherry Monahan has a excellent book covering this historic town. Lots of good information on little known aspects of its birth as a mining claim, to it's transformation as a thriving city, to it's downfall as the mines flood. Most books dwell on the lawless element and ignore the everyday life of the town's people. This book gives the whole picture.

I was very dissapointed in this book. There was little new or interesting in the book. The title of the book includes reference to Golden Saloons. There are only a couple of decent photos of the saloons which is dissapointing given that a focus of the book was supposed to be the saloons. The Bird Cage Saloon, is still nearly all original yet there are no photos of the inside of this famous entertainment and old west watering hole. The lack of depth of information on local history is also obvious. This book hugely underdelivers and was a waste of my time and money.

This is a fascinating study of a part of Tombstone that never got any scrutiny in the past. Well written story with plenty of detail. I recommend it.
