Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

There's a lot to like on Tommy Henriksen's self-titled debut, not the least of which are engaging melodies, pleasant pop-rock structures, and lyrics that rise above the genre's familiar clichés. What kicks this solid, self-confident album into high gear, though, is Henriksen's interest in world music, which is manifested in a wall-of-sound construction of guitars, keyboards, and drum machines, yes, but also diverse instruments such as sitar, pennywhistle, accordion, tabla, and Swedish bagpipe. Vocally, Henriksen is a dead ringer for Peter Gabriel, which is disconcerting at times, but not enough to drain the appeal or individuality from attitudinally upbeat tracks such as "I See the Sun," "One Voice," or the wistful "Beyond Life," which features a guest vocal by avant-rocker Nina Hagen. --Daniel Durchholz

Here in England, UK - none of the big record dealers had heard of this guy... but I was treated to "I SEE THE SUN" in an episode of some kids program (Malibu CA i think) and was blown away...I can honestly say that just sitting down and listening to the CD is a fantastic way of passing an hour...and Tommy's voice is incredible. Buy this ...simple as that...you really WILL NOT be disappointed !

I had heard the song "I see the sun" a hunderd times on the radio and loved hearing it. Normally I would not but an album until I had heard other songs off of it and this was no exception..what made me change my mind was seeing him perform live. On the Fourth of July he performed in Albuquerque NM for the Peak Picnic. His interaction with his fans before and after the show introduced me to an artist that was not so typical. He signed endless autographs and took pictures with anyone who asked. What intigued me the most was watching him perfom. His energy and enthusiasm has a tremendous effect on the audience. His emotions and feelings are shown through his songs and lyrics. His use of world instruments and the use of his unique voice make a sound that is just amazing. At the end of his performance, he had left me breathless. This album is some of the best stuff I have heard in years. In my opinion it is hard to give his unique music a category. I feel that listeners of mainstream rock, pop, world music, new age and even contemporary will enjoy this album as much as I have.

This is the album Peter Gabriel might make if he were starting out today...
Yes, Henriksen's voice is a close match, but the music stands well on its own... it definitely is not derivative. If you like Gabriel you will definitely love this album.

As the millenium approaches, music must prepare itself for the inevitable change of the ages. And with those changes there must be a new force to spearhead the change. This force has a name and it's Tommy Henriksen. From the worldly sounds and hip-hop beat of the opening track "If I Could", to the atmospheric and emotion-drenched ender "Heaven Only Knows" this cd is the soundtrack to a culture in metamorphosis. But all the while maintaining a fresh pop sensibility, the songs are just so damn catchy- try getting them out of your head. Quite a feat, and especially for a new artist. Where has this guy been? Suggested tracks for surreal ear candy, the blissful "Beyond Life" [with cameo by avant-rocker Nina Hagen], "Dreaming in Colors", and the African chant-anthem "Uneasy Street". Then for an upbeat flavor is the celtic-fueled "One Voice", and the seductive stirrings of "When She Comes". This is an absolute must!

WOW!!!..After only a few listens, this CD hits you like a ton of bricks. It really impressed me right away, the first song "If I could" kicks the Cd off and sets the tone for the rest of the record. I found myself humming along to these songs instantly, they are THAT CATCHY!!!. The next tune "I see the sun" will be a top ten hit..No doubt about it..the chorus remains with you instantly. If I would have to draw some simlarites with other artists, I might say it "Collective soul" and maybe "David bowie"..it's a very unique CD..and it should appeal to everyone that enjoys excellent songs. Some other stand-out tracks would include "One Voice" and in my opinion..should be the 2nd single "Right here by my side". This CD Rocks..Period!!

...I'm the kinda guy that usually doesn't buy an album unless I've heard a song on the radio by the artist, guess because I'm scared I'll get a lemon. Every once in a while I'm surprised. But I had the chance to listen to this album at a music store first (the cover intrigued me) and I was BLOWN AWAY. Not only is it great music, but the lyrics are very thought provoking as well. I can't stop moving to "If I Could" and "One Voice". "Uneasy street" is a great contemplative number as is "Tell Me Why".

This is a *must have* CD! There are only a few cd's I have that I listen to all the tracks all the time and this is sure one(collective soul's "dosage" is another)! At first it kinda sounds like another guy trying to make a smash hit into the pop/rock world, and maybe "I See the Sun" is the only track that hits you hard right off, but the more you listen the better it gets! I expect to hear "I See the Sun" all over the radio soon!
This is a must have... get it now =)

I fell in love with "I See the Sun" when I heard it on The Buzz in Houston, so the first day the CD was out, I got it! The whole CD is absolutely wonderful, a nice break from mainstream pop rock! I can't wait to see him at Buzzfest this weekend - if his show is half as good as his CD, we are all in for a great concert!
