5.0 out of 5 stars I Lucked Out May 30, 2004
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I bought this DVD in the hopes I would hear the group sing their hit songs in their entirety, and was pleasantly surprised. Draggin' The Line, Crimson and Clover, Crystal Blue Persuasion, Hanky Panky, Mony Mony, and, my favorite, I think We're Alone Now were all very well done. Other features include individual song commentary, full-length interviews, discography, and a biography. However, it was the full length renditions of their hit songs that get the five star rating from me. If this is what interests you, you will get your money's worth from this DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tommy's vocals are LIVE! July 11, 2002
Format:DVD
There are any number of possible reasons for a perceived discontinuity between video and audio, including something as simple as early speaker reflections off the TV screen. The video and audio are recorded individually on location. Then the audio is mixed, the video is edited, the two are mated together so you can also get an occasional glitch that way (just look closely at any movie or TV show). Plus...as producer of this DVD, I guarantee you that Tommy is indeed singing LIVE. If you want further proof, check out a concert or watch for his performance on PBS this fall. Most of all, enjoy the music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than AM radio October 20, 2001
Format:DVD
I took a chance buying this DVD, and it paid-off. I was never a big fan of Tommy James, but the songs are ingrained from years gone-bye (mostly AM Radio listening). What makes this DVD a special treat is hearing all these songs, for the first time, in premium sound quality. While I wouldn't rate the sound quality as superior -- it non-the-less delivers quality enough to make this DVD's 5.1 surround a keeper for the ages. The picture is also very good, and the setting, filmed at "The Bitter End" a small nightclub/bar makes the moment very personal. Much like some of my other favorites: Roy Orbison (Black & White), Bee Gees (One Night), Moody Blues (Royal Albert Hall), the overall quality and features (interview etc.)make this DVD one of those unique finds that favorably captures the music of its time in a just fashion. Chances are that if you show an interest in the DVD you will most likely enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Tommy James - NOT lip synched January 13, 2006
By Homer
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I've seen Tommy James and the Shondells numerous times in concert. Each time they have been great. The main difference between shows is the band being used at the time of the show. Tommy is very particular about this and they always range from very good to excellent - the band on this DVD is in the very good category. Tommy, as always is excellent. For the yahoo out there that stated that this is lip synched - I suggest that he go to a concert and he'll realize that this is exactly how they sound. This is NOT lip synched. The only complaint would be that the running time is 60 minutes - it would have been nice to have a few more songs added but all of the key songs are here.

One of the excellent things about this DVD is that (even though it is recorded in a very small club) the camera angles and vantage points are really well done. I get tired of the slick videos produced today that spend 95% of the time on close ups of the singers face and leave out the band - you lose all continuity of the show. Not here - you feel like you are actually there. - Very well done.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful blast from the past! February 19, 2006
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This concert was recorded at a small club, not an arena. You get a high quality image and an very "up close and personal" feel. And, all the hits I remember are on this concert. If you are a fan of Tommy James, this should definitely be in your DVD collection, and hopefully played through a good sound system when you watch it.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! January 11, 2007
Format:DVD
If you love Tommy James, then you'll love this DVD! I was very excited to see it and it doesn't disappoint! The audience is laid back because of the small, intimate club Tommy played at, but the music sounds great, and it's cool to hear inside information about the tracks...like how certain songs came to be, how "Mony, Mony" got its name, etc. For example, did you know that Tommy James and the Shondells unknowingly passed on appearing at Woodstock? Thank Goodness it didn't hurt him one bit! I just saw Tommy in New York at the Norfork Theater in Westbury. He was fantastic! That guy doesn't miss a beat and he sounds as good as he did 40 years ago! Buy the DVD!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tommy shines on this DVD!!!! October 12, 2000
Format:DVD
I originally got into Tommy James' work during my punk-rock days (well, as long as you consider Billy Idol punk rock!) The greatest hits are all here (MONY MONY, I Think We're Alone Now, Tighter Tighter, Crystal Blue Persuasion), and I must say that Tommy is in fine voice. The arrangements are true to the originals, but the DVD audio is crisp with clear separation between the channels. This is a live recording, and Tommy and band are loose-as-a-goose, and they look like they are having the time of their lives. The Bitter End provides a great backdrop for the performance, and the surround sound puts me right in the middle of the performance.

2.0 out of 5 stars Definitely not a professional "in concert" production.
It is good for what it is. But this is Tommy James playing in a little pub in NYC with about 20 people in it. There's no "stage presence" which uses cheesy lighting. Read more
