Nice Listening,

Peter Zak is clearly a lyrical, sensitive pianist who, as evidenced by this disc, doesn't venture far from highly listenable melodic lines, although he becomes more adventuresome on the likes of McCoy Tyner's "For Tomorrow." What he also can do is swing, as is evident from the outset. If you are looking for adventure or hard bop, look elsewhere. Want a nice, solid listen, Zak will give you one here.

I'm no Jazz expert, but I know what I love, and this album fits right into that category. Zak's swinging, melodic style gives us multiple levels--toe-tapping, dance around the room pleasure, and the more intellectual listen. I especially enjoyed thinking through Zak's own Bran Flake and The Cream or the Clear. If you live in New York, go see this man play with his fabulous trio. And meanwhile, everyone should get the album.Gwendolen Gross, author of THE OTHER MOTHER |
