As a relatively recent convert to the joys of Gin and Tonic, I've been exploring various gins off the beaten path and recently discovered the boutique tonic market. Tomr's Tonic is amazingly good with the right gin. This is not for a robust traditional gin but works very well with the more botanical gins or even a pre-prohibition gin like Hayman's Old Tom Gin or Deaths Door Gin. The subtle flavors will be lost on a heavy juniper gin like Sloane's Gin or Beefeater. The downside to buying this tonic is that you will run out much sooner than you think. So do yourself a favor and buy the big bottle rather then small bottles like I did :)

I've been drinking gin and tonic for many decades but read about this item in the Wall Street Journal Weekend edition as an interesting departure from the classic sweet gin and tonic. Tastes for gin and mixers are all over the place from super sweet to lots of sour lime no to mention gin which includes the horrid and obsurdly expensive Hendricks.
This tonic is not cheap, but it does contain the essential quinine and some other really good and tasty things. When mixed with soda water it is an excellent departure from the classic sweet tonic waters bought anywhere to mix with gin of any flavor.
I like its slightly bitter, but not citric bitter, taste.

If you are into Gin & Tonic, tonic syrup is a completely different experience. You get all the refreshment of a G&T, but the tonic syrup, mixed with club soda is SO MUCH better than your typical tonic water, it creates a whole new drink experience. I find it really enhances the florals or dryness character of the gin - and gives a slight hint of sweetness. And when someone sees you drinking a brownish hued G&T - it always starts a fun conversation. Try it. It's just better.

This is what a gin and tonic is supposed to be - not that sweet insipid Canada Dry or Schweppes stuff.

This tonic is delicious! You do have to mix it with seltzer or club soda in order to mix a drink with it, but the results are great. My friends who love gin and tonics were quite pleased with the flavor.

This stuff is okay, honestly though it tasted like I mixed my gin with aftershave. Some people might like it I thought it was alright but I think I'll stick to store bought tonic though.

I really wanted to love this product having researched and attempted to make my own syrup, but it is thoroughly disappointing. I realize taste is a personal thing, but I was hoping for a tonic water with less sweetness and a higher flavor of the quinine & citric acid - more like an English tonic water which is made with cane sugar and is far less obviously sweet.
I thought the sweetness overwhelmed (even when using less) and was not balanced by the sharp dryness that I crave in tonic water. The end result, even after experimenting with different strengths, was a weird tasting sweet water.

I enjoy this tonic syrup. It's a bit milder than regular tonic syrup--there's less quinine taste. For some people, this is a bad thing, but for me, it's a good thing. I'd call it a good starter tonic for people looking to get into drinks with tonic water. I mix it with sparkling water that I make using my SodaStream (3 oz sparkling water, 1 oz tonic syrup). The only real disadvantage of the tonic syrup is that it has to be stored in the fridge after it's opened. Overall, I think this is a product worth trying. Some people will enjoy it and others won't. I would buy it again.
