Great Toothpaste,

When I bought this, I didn't realize it was fluoride-free. Normally I wouldn't choose this, however, this toothpaste still performs very well. So if you seek a fluoride-free toothpaste, Tom's of Maine Antiplaque & Whitening is for you.PROS: - nice foaming action, not too much and not too little - great, fresh peppermint flavor - freshens breath wonderfully, and keeps it that way better than most toothpastes - doesn't dry mouth out - slightly gritty texture (nothing wildly abrasive, though) which helps scrub teeth. - great for using on battery-powered/rechargeable toothbrushes CONS: - no fluoride (unless that's what you're looking for, then it is a pro) - I don't notice any profound whitening properties. I think it helps prevent stains more than removing them. I drink coffee and tea daily, and my teeth aren't darkening at all, so I think this toothpaste is more of a stain prevention rather than whitener. OVERALL: A great toothpaste that tastes wonderful and has ingredients I love. No artificial sweeteners which can dry out a mouth, causing bad breath sooner. Seems to clean my teeth very well. Highly recommended if you don't want/need fluoride.

Love the smell of this toothpaste. Have been using it for a month now and since it is all natural I will continue to use it. Only thing I do not see is whiter teeth, but since that's not the reason why I bought it, I am fine with that.

Tom's of Maine Toothpaste
Tom's is a small company, employing fewer than two hundred people. It was founded in 1970 and then purchased by Colgate in 2006. Fortunately, Colgate has left Tom's alone to manage their business according to their original principles. Tom's makes natural products. The toothpaste contains no sugar, sweeteners, or artificial flavoring. By contrast, I looked at a tube of Colgate toothpaste that I have on the shelf. It contains "flavor," whatever that is, "saccharine," and "propylene glycol." The last ingredient is a less-toxic form of anti-freeze. One advantage of Tom's toothpaste is that we do not have to worry about ingesting poisons when we use it. I have been using Tom's for years. The toothpaste comes in many flavors. On Amazon, you can find Peppermint, Spearmint, Fennel, Orange-Mango, Cinnamint, Wintermint, Apricot, Soothing Mint, True Mint, and Gingermint, among others. I prefer the Peppermint flavor, which is refreshing, but not overwhelming. The toothpaste is available in sizes from 1 ounce to 6 ounces. I do not exactly live in a wilderness area, but my local stores no longer carry Tom's. Fortunately, it can be found on Amazon and other web sites. The prices do vary from vendor to vendor, so check for the best price. |
