As a Mom, I love the fact it has natural ingredients and is dye free.

"I received a free sample of Tom's of Maine® Wicked Cool!(tm) Toothpaste from Smiley360." and my kids loved it!

My kids hate peppermint flavor so the strawberry taste of this toothpaste is very well liked by them.

It has sodium lauryl sulfate. Sigh. I've begun to make my own toothpaste with equal parts of coconut oil, baking soda aand a few drops peppermint. Will be doing the same for the kiddos.. Can't trust "corporate" products. Even Tom's. Sorry!

will not buy again. had switched to Tom's years ago due to their commitment to conserving our waterways and more 'natural' and 'naturally derived' ingredients. when we learned the family would sell the business, we had heard that part sale required these values continue on,
but after buying this, took a more careful look and was surprised to find Tom's toothpaste has sodium laurel sulfate as an ingredient. I am fully aware the within the product it is a small amount, but obviously we bought this for our child and they will swallow some until they learn proper technique, years from now. in the meantime they will ingest unknown quantities of this kind of product.
also noticed the rivers initiative hasn't appeared on the packaging in years, so that must have been done away with too.
don't have any packaging from the time before Tom's was bought out by 'big name company' but I don't recall seeing SLS on the ingredient list. maybe I'm wrong, either way we have to switch all our toothpaste in the house away from Tom's. sad.

How can this be "natural" with SLS in it? Nope, I'll keep on using Kiss My Face or Burt's Bees or making my own. Read the labels, people.

We are dental health professionals and we use this for our kids. We see so much fluorosis (discoloration of the permanent teeth) on adults, so during the formative years of their permanent teeth, we will be using this. Especially since little kiddos tend to swallow a ton of it. We are fluoride supporters, however, are cognizant of what happens when they ingest too much. When they no longer eat the toothpaste, we will switch to a fluoride based toothpaste.

We have been fans of Tom's products, and trusted them for our infant. Tasted it before giving it to my baby and GAGGED on the horrible stuff. Then read the ingredients (should have done that first!) and noted it contains sodium lauryl sulfate. Double trouble! Thanks for nothing, in this case. If anyone can find a safe and good-tasting toothpaste for infants or children, I'm all ears...

When it comes to little kids, how do you decide which toothpaste to use? Fluoride? Natural fluoride? No fluoride? Good old known brand? New and Innovative company? I am not sure if you find this topic confusing, but my head at some point was spinning trying to figure things out.

Why is this a problem?
My 3-year-old wanted to use his older sister toothpaste, because everything his sister has is better (duh!)
My 5-year-old wanted to use training toothpaste I bought for the little one, because she wants to be a baby and because she likes it.
My 3-year-old consciously eats the toothpaste, because ... hmm, who really knows!
As delicious as some of the oral care products are, fluoride is not a good snack and shouldn't be consumed twice a day.

And that is why I am happy to have Tom's of Maine in my house. The best part of this toothpaste is that it has natural fluoride and it is also delicious (according to my kids).

Toothpaste Ingredients
When I came across Tom's Maine, I was looking for something that both of my kids can use. I don't know much about chemistry and as much as I want to educate myself about what's in a toothpaste, this list of ingredients makes me wish I paid closer attention to my chemistry classes.

However, Tom's of Maine website has an explanation of ingredients that gives me much better understanding what natural toothpaste is made of:

Picture Perfect Toothpaste
Do you pick your child's toothpaste by a picture on the packaging? You have to agree: just because the box has a smiley face your kids love, it doesn't describe the quality of the product at all. I still have a toothpaste with a certain Nickelodeon character my daughter insisted on buying and refuses to use. Since we have Silly Strawberry Toothpaste in the house and everyone is happy with the taste, my little helpers don't go for anything else, but the smiley strawberries.

Stop using SLS and carageenan. Carageenan has been linked to GI cancer, ulcers, inflammation. How is this advertised as chemical free when it contains SLS??

I like this toothpaste only for two reasons: it is a natural flouride-free toothpaste and it wasn't pricy; However, it tastes terrible, my kids don't like it, and their breath still smells terrible after I brush their teeth. It doesn't seem to be doing a very good job at all. I won't purchase this again.
