I've never had much luck using deodorants instead of anti-perspirants. Deoderants have all failed miserably providing only a few hours, if that, of odor protection. I don't perspire heavily, but the odor can be quite strong. I've used anti-perspirants in the past but now wish to move away from using them because of potential health issues.

I've had a moderate amount of good luck using Kiss My Face Liquid Rock Roll On Deodorant - Summer, 3 oz deodorant although I've not particularly cared for the scents available. But now with the Toms Of Maine Deodorant Crystal Confidence Citrus, I think I've finally found a good smelling, natural product that gives all-day deodorant protection to me.

But there is one major problem... the applicator ball does not roll. It is so tight in the container that it just simply doesn't roll properly. So the only way I can get deodorant out of the bottle is to squeeze it so that the liquid oozes out of the container around the ball and then just spread it around using the ball. I've called Tom's of Maine three different times to complain about the applicator ball being non-rolling. They have replaced the product three different times, but so far no solution has been offered. Clearly the container needs to be re-engineered. So basically it's a great product in a defective package so I must give it a poor review. If they can fix the applicator, then I'd give it 5 stars.

UPDATE: 5/6/2010- Tom's of Maine customer support has informed me that they sent my returned product to their labs for review and have determined that the containers that I had did not meet spec. They have contacted the manufacturer of the containers and have supposedly rectified the problem. Tom's of Maine is sending a new container to me and I will update my review again if the applicator ball is improved.

UPDATE: 5/11/2010- I have received the replacement product and have been assured by Tom's of Maine that there were some containers that were out of spec but that the issue has been resolved. Time will tell of course, but the one they sent me works as it should. With that in mind, I have updated my stars to 5. It works really well for me.

This stuff works great. I've used crystal deodorants for years, and their only drawback is they shatter when dropped. This liquid version in a plastic bottle solves that problem, and works for me.

I found out that the aluminum in the regular antiperspirants was what was causing the waxy, yellow pit-stains to build-up on my white tee shirts and my karate uniforms.
I've heard rumors that aluminum MAY be implicated in the brain damage of Alzheimer's.

This was the highest-reviewed natural alternative (within my price range), and I gave it a try despite it being a roll-on.
It was WELL worth it.

The initial fragrance is barely-there and unobtrusive; just the way I prefer it.
I'm not crazy about the roll-on delivery system, but it is tolerable in this instance.

The antiperspirant effect lasts all day, and I even wear it to the karate workouts at night.
I sweat profusely during the workout, and yet there is no smell and no residual pit-stains.
