Tom's of Maine Deodorant, Aluminum-Free, Long Lasting, Wild Lavender, 2.25 oz.

I've been using the unscented regular version of this deodorant and have been pleased with the results.

So, naturally I picked up a stick of the new long lasting lavender version expecting the same or better.

Just one day after using this deodorant, my armpit skin felt like it was on FIRE! The skin was red, raised and angry looking.

I did a Google search to see if anyone else had experienced this problem and behold there are hundreds of people in the same boat as me with burning and redness after using the new long lasting formula.

Fortunately for me, a few days of hydrocortisone cream and it went away. Other people

have described peeling skin and long term skin discoloration.

DON'T BUY THIS!

After reading the mixed reviews here, I was hesitant to try out "Tom's", but aluminum-free deodorants are hard to come by, so I bit the bullet and gave the Lavender Scented kind a try.

Pros:

* Surprisingly effective at curbing my perspiration. When I was using Clinical Formula aluminum antiperspirants, I was sweating much more than when I use Tom's.

* No white stains or discolorations on clothes.

* Pleasant consistency and smell. It reminds me a little of Old Spice.

Cons:

* About 10-15 minutes after applying, my under arms begin burning/tingling and the Tom's actually foams a little under my arms. It was really bad the first time I used it, but it gets less noticeable after each application. Now the burning/tingling lasts only 10 minutes and is non-existent for the rest of the day.

* The odor protection is limited. It usually last 8-12 hours and then my arm pits REALLY stink. I re-apply, though, and the odor goes away. I need to keep an extra deodorant stick at work for high-stress/high-activity days.

Over all, it's an OK product. In spite of the burning, I do like it more than the aluminum products I was using, and am pretty happy that my perspiration level is way down. If only it had more long-lasting odor protection!

This past winter I was suffering from major health problems and consequently, just about everything made me break out in a nasty rash, including my deodorant + antiperspirant. Not only that, but my old deodorant + antiperspirant wasn't working very well any more. I gave some easily available competitors to my old deodorant a try, and continued to have major skin problems and kept sweating like mad. A convenience store on my college campus had this product and I decided to give it a try.

Tom's is currently the only deodorant that I can use without skin problems. The aloe also feels nice and helps the stick glide better. Not only that, but I actually sweat significantly less with this deodorant than I do with deodorants that have added anti-perspirants. I have since recommended this deodorant to friends and they, too, have had the same results.

The reason why this deodorant only gets four stars instead of five is because it requires more frequent application than most deodorants. I know that if I am having a busy day I need to apply it in the morning and again late in the afternoon, which can be a pain but is actually worth the trouble.

I am a 23 year old woman and nurse. I have recently tried to phase all natural products into my life. Tom's Lavender Scented Deodorant was the very first all-natural deodorant that I tried. I have NEVER EVER had a problem with body odor. I am physically active and don't sweat much at all. I applied Tom's as soon as I bought it. I liked the earthy lavender scent. I was dinking around the house for the remainder of the evening. I woke up in the morning and sniffed my under arm..... oh, BOY, the fumes were OFFENSIVE. I could not believe that was coming from ME! I come across some pretty funky people as I am a nurse, but none as funky as me after using Tom's deodorant after one application. Save your $$ DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT. This deodorant makes you smell TERRIBLE.... it is an ODORANT, not a de-odorant. YUCK YUCK YUCK. Use Jason's brand instead. It works great! I have super-sensitive skin and cannot wear regular deodorants (like Secret or Mitchum) without getting a rash and itching non-stop. This is the only deodorant that I have found that works, smells nice and doesn't make me break out. I like this product and it is the only deodorant I will use. If you are having rash problems, give this a try.

This is a horrible product. As you can see with the many negative reviews, this causes major skin irritation. My pits are red, peeling, and inflamed... plus, it doesn't even work!!! Do not waste your money or your poor armpits skin!!

I have really been getting into natural/organic products and since I read up on the bad stuff in non-organic/natural deodorants I decided to try out Toms Lavender Scented deodorant. I enjoy the fresh, natural lavender smell, but it unfortunetly does not last very long at all. I would suggest reapplying. I dont like how it feels when I first apply it, but then it dries. I think that already, I have perspired less from using it. I usually sweat a lot even when im not doing any vigorous work so that was a plus. I hope that part lasts for sure!

I will be expiramenting with other organic/natural deodorants in the future.

I do think that I will have to get used to this type of deodorant, but im willing to if it means a healthier me!

For anyone who has problems with aluminum and can't use antipersperant.s this is a good alternative.

This is a terrific alternative to conventional products. Works like a charm without the creepy ingredients-- even in the Texas heat!

Brilliant! No scary ingredients and works great. I've tried the unscented and this one. I like both, but this is a step up. No smelly armpits and no white residue on your clothes.
