I had seen this set on Baby Einsteins Baby Beethoven and thought it looked like a lot of fun, but since the video was old I did not think I would ever find it. Then I saw this set at clearance in a local store and jumped on it. Boy am I amazed. I don't remember the last time I felt like I received this much value in a toy. The set is HUGE, bigger than I expected mainly because I paid such a small price. Well designed and so far hours of fun for my daughter (5) and myself. Everything seems well made, all plastic but not flimsy. Reminded me of putting together Hot Wheels track, but bigger. The track goes together well and it has a fairly complicated switching system that you need to pay attention to what you are doing to avoid train collisions when running both trains that come with the set. The train engines take one C battery each, have multiple speeds and have a good amount of weight to them even without the battery. This set is well designed for children, many derailments that can occur through switches are corrected by the power of the engine just flat out dragging the cars back onto the track. If the engine itself derails, my daughter just puts it back on the track while it is still running and it drags its cars back on with ease.

I really cannot say enough of how pleased I am with this set, I would have easily paid twice as much and still been satisfied. I have been very disappointed with the quality of the Die Cast metal Thomas trains and stick to the non-powered wooden sets, they just don't seem to now how to do the electronics. I think I will have to try the Tomy made plastic Thomas trains. My daughter loves the powered trains.

Tomy train sets (blue tracks) are used by hobbyists worldwide. They are very durable and snap into place (unlike wooden sets which easily fall apart). They are compatible with Thomas Trackmaster motorized trains. For what you get, I think the set is a great value.
