5.0 out of 5 stars Adorable, until the batteries run out!
Buyers, beware! This toy is hysterical ... funny sounds, great waddles, and lots of fun. However, its batteries CANNOT be replaced, which means the toy is worthless in terms of sound once the batteries run out. This was a big disappointment for me, as TOMY typically makes really great toys. Also, watch how you store it in the toy box, as the red connectors are easily...

3.0 out of 5 stars High durability is a *bad* thing here!
This is a cute toy -- the FIRST hundred times you hear it. With each successive LOUD repeat, though, you will find your sanity slipping away. Do toy manufacturers think we're all hard-of-hearing?

A child might give the fun rating here 4 stars but an adult would probably give it 2. I think the suggestion of putting tape over the speaker area is a good one.

It really...

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute but limited, February 23, 2001

Let me just say that I love to hear this toy making noise. Of all of the presents that I bought for my son's first Christmas, this is the one that tickles me most. He doesn't get as much fun out of it, however; the toy turns over nearly every time he tries to pull it behind him as he walks. Perhaps if we didn't have a carpeted house it would be different? As it is, my son mostly plays with this toy while sitting down and, now that he's learned to walk, that just doesn't happen often. So I would recommend these ducks for parents with babies who aren't mobile yet. They'll love it!

It really is cute .... but be prepared to have "quack quack, quack quack, quack quack quack quack, quack quack, quack quack, quack QUACK QUACK" running through your head at the oddest moments.

3.0 out of 5 stars Toxic or Non-toxic?, October 16, 2002

My daughter received this toy as a gift when she was about one year old. She enjoyed pulling the string and hearing the "quacks". However she was at the age (still is) where almost all toys go in her mouth. Right after she was playing with it I noticed a little orange on her cheek. I looked at the toy and sure enough some of the paint had chipped off. I immediately gave it back to the gift giver and she returned it! Any toy that has particles that come off when chewed are in my opinion, not safe...non toxic or not (and this toy box did NOT say, non-toxic).

We bought the toy because it reminded us of pull toys from our youth. The electronic "quack" is cute, but loud. Like many of my daughter's electronic toys, I put a piece of clear plastic packing tape over the speaker to lower the volume. It helps a lot!

5.0 out of 5 stars If improvements were made, it would be a perfect toy!, April 12, 2003

My sister bought this toy for our 14 month old son. He loves it, however some things about it drove us nuts! The first thing was the volume of the quacking. We opened up the duck and duct taped both the speaker and the hole that the sound came out of. First problems solved. Second, the ducks fall over very easily, making our son very upset. (yet another type of noise issue) We added oversized primary beads along the string which kept a heavier low center of gravity to the ducks as they are being pulled and kept the string from getting around the wheel axles. This eliminated much of the falling over, but not all of it. If Tomy would change the wheel width so the ducks wouldn't be so unstable, and add a volume control to it so they weren't so loud, this would be nearly a perfect toy!

This toy seems to thrill parents more than children. The sound effects are adorable (although not so cute when the quacking tune gets stuck in your head), but the ducks fall over so easily the kids lose interest almost immediately. You'd be better off buying a different pull along toy. (Check out the puppy dogs.)

My 15 month old daughter just loves this toy! She pulls it around the house with her and makes "waddling" motions and quacking sounds along with it. She loves to point out the mama duck, and then the babies. It was a great find! I'm going to get one for her best friend, so they each have one to play with. :o)

Don't get me wrong. My son loves these ducks. As soon as he figured out the whole "pull toy" concept, these ducks were his favorite. They are *NOT* my favorite. The quacking becomes so obnoxious I've been tempted to hide the damn thing from him, and it's only my love for him that stops me. The ducks aren't all that balanced, either, so they tip over a lot, and it's very difficult for a young toddler to figure out how to set them upright again. So fun, yes (for him), great, no.

As an experienced mom of four I actually find this toy adorable and I didn't notice a problem of them tipping over. Most pull toys they make these days tip easier than the ones my oldest played with.
HOWEVER-beware- YOU CAN'T CHANGE THE BATTERIES. And they just aren't as cute without the quack quack, quack quack, quack quack, quaaack. :O)
Also-how many times was that string pulled while the toy sat on a toy store shelf before *you* bought it???
Cute toy but limited life span.
