This wonderful set contains some of the best music that modern jazz has to offer. Woody Shaw, always someone to listen to, is at his finest here with the dazzling Tone Jansa group. Jansa plays beautifully and powerfully on 3 wind instruments, shining with uncanny ability and deep feeling across the varied jazz styles that this disk comprises. His rhythm section is top-notch and on this outing, they all came to play! Especially impressive is pianist Renato Chicco: his accompaniment seems always just right, and his solos are lovely and nimble. Drummer Dragan Gajic and bassist Peter Herbert are equally adept, adding strong support and constant drive to the session. As for Woody...I'm not sure he's ever sounded better, and that's saying a lot. He seems more than simply at home here; he's fully alive, wonderfully inventive and the ultimate star of this brilliant recording. The true heart of jazz can be heard here, as it was always meant to be.

This CD and another called "Dr.Chi"(a Shaw tune) with the mysterious yet superb Tone Jansa of Yugoslavia are not to missed by any Woody fan.While I like some of the Muse tiles and Rosewood was a commercial success I would recommend these two CD along with Muse "Solid" and another knockout "In Your Own Sweet Way" on In/out as his among his best stuff.Just get it and I guarantee you will look for the RTB (state record label) collection of Tone Jansa and his ban.Jansa played in the perfect post 'Trane vernacular on tenor and soprano and is prefect foil for Woody.Maye somebody out there can tell me what the hell happened to Tone Jansa-and incredible talent who has that freeweheeling spirit of say Billy Harper.Get this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What can I say - Woody Shaw - simply amazing. He is a perfect fit with Tone Jansa - their styles are very similar. Another amazing Woody recording.
