Powerful & Creative Jazz Guitar,
By
This review is from: The Tonester (Audio CD)
I have had the pleasure of seeing Tony play a couple of times now and he is an inspiring musician. There are not too many players in the world that I would expect to be able to play this kind of energetic and emotional music with so much creativity. This CD captures the unique power of his music. If you are unable to see one of his rare appearances, then surely you should own some of his CD's, and this is a great one to start with. Tony can play it all, including understated flights of clean, pretty classics to hard driving frantic impulses that can lift you out of your seat. The beauty to me is that he, in some ways, manages to combine both elements in many cases. Electric guitar work that is pushing ahead without loosing sight of the old school, a wonderful metamorphisis. Some of his work is original but he revisits many classic pieces with new life. Jazz and any guitar aficionados are likely to delight in this album, but it's just great music anyone should enjoy. Tony is inspired by some of the best composers/performers in jazz as evidenced by many of the selections on his CD's (like Wayne Shorter, Joe Henderson, Joe Farrel, Elvin Jones)and Tony has played with some of these greats over the years. But don't expect a Blue Note rehashing, just expect the same level of greatness and progressive thinking. This music is a search in progress that leaves you wanting more. Enjoy this and most anything Tony releases.

One of the Greatest,

This review is from: The Tonester (Audio CD)
Tony is by far one of the greatest guitarists in the world, and I am not exagerating. If Mozart were a musician, he would be Tony Purrone. Just be prepared to stretch your ears. He's saying alot.

This review is from: The Tonester (Audio CD)
This man is incredble. I have actually had the pleasure of meeting him. He was my dad's old friend but then he left. He was a funny guy. Anyway, any of his CD's are awesome. Also you can go to his website just by going to google and typing in his name. Great man great man.
