Ouch. A disappointment.,

Fiona Walker has always been a wonderful, funny read, with sympathetic and believable characters. This book is an unfortunate exception--with an overly convoluted and contrived plot involving a murder that may or may not have happened, a bunch of ghosts that may or may not exist, arson (or is it) culminating in what seems to be a completely pointless death-defying midnight point to point race. Her characters have always seemed clueless in their relationships, but in this one they seem almost bizarrely so--affairs flare up, everyone declares undying love, and then it's over in six pages. Long-lost lovers reunite and squabble, reunite and squabble, over and over again until I really couldn't have cared less how it all turned out.Fiona has always been on my list of indulgent pleasures, but this one is not in her usual league.

Complete disapointment,

I too have been a fan of Fiona Walker's books since first reading "Snap Happy" a few years ago. I have been waiting patiently for her latest work and could not wait to dive into "Tongue in Cheek". Initially, I had a difficult time getting into the story but I persevered. I am sorry to say that it did not get much better. I just could not empathize with any of the characters and was just glad I finally finished this extremely long (and at times confusing) book. While I would not recommend this particular book, I would certainly recommend some of her previous books like "Snap Happy" and "Lucy Talk". I'm not giving up on Fiona Walker just yet and look forward to her next novel.

I dont know if i read the same book as the women above, but i think they've got it totally wrong. I loved this book and read all 600 odd pages in about 2 days. There were loads of characters but most of them were already covered in the previous lodes chronicles book 'Lots of Love' and if you would have read that first, like i did, then you would have been pleased with all the extra characters as it let you know how they are getting on now!I LOVED the book and cannot wait to read the third lodes chronicles Four Play. Well done Fiona, i have read all of your work so far as you haven't let me down yet. I absolutely love your books!!!!! Nicola Glasgow.

Endless writing to nowhere. This was disappointing compared to her other works, French Relations being her best. Dragged myself through it without really caring about any of the characters... arsonist hits small, horsey town filled with dysfunctional, constantly drunk families. Plot twists and mysteries were confusing. It wasn't funny, believable, or really interesting in the end.

Disappointed,
This review is from: Tongue in Cheek (Paperback)
I am a big fan of Fiona Walker, I have read French Relations, Well Groomed, Kiss Chase and loved them. For some reason, Tongue in Cheek missed the mark. Not only is it much too long, the characters and plot are for lack of a better term muddy. You get a general sense of a person, but not really how they think, what drives them, etc. It's just a miss and in my opinion a waste of time. I would not read this book again

This book had a bit of everything! It was funny, sad, poingnant and realistic. Fiona Walker has created some wonderful characters and quite an intricate story line. I did not want this book to end.

Unimpressive,
This review is from: Tongue in Cheek (Paperback)
So Fiona Walker has always been a must read Author of mine. But seriously, this book was just rubbish. Way too many pages, way too many unnecessary characters and not nearly enough editing. Am relieved to have finished it. Unfortunately, I fear I will steer clear of future novels by this author.
