Less than five stars??? Get out!,
By Fritz Katzenjammer (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tongues (Audio CD)
This was my first Esham CD. I walked around for 3 hours visiting about a dozen stores before I found it, I was afraid it would disappoint me. It turned out to be the most extreme disc I'd ever listen to. The production is off-the-wall. Esham is wicked to the core on this album. Two collaborations with Kool Keith. A couple with members from the Dayton Family, members of Natas, but most of this album is the creation of Esham the Unholy and his diverse, multi-talented guitar-playing man, Santos. Santos has to be mentioned because he adds spanish guitar and electric guitar to about half the tracks. A lot of fresh sounds to say the least. Drum machines, wild spacey keyboard work, bass (and more), make the tasty background to Esham's wicked rhymes on Tongues.I read one review that accuses Esham of trying to get famous through the dozens of Eminem disses. It's probably true, but when you consider a lot of Eminem's ideas were Esham's years before and delivered twice as nice. Just take a listen to "Envy the Sunshine" from this album where Esham sings to his daughter. An effort that actually works in comparison to Eminem's whiney, N'Syncish, trite and insipid ditty titled "Hailies Song" that came out a mere year later. Esham should have more recognition, especially after Eminem sent D-12 to beat the living hell out of him for all the disses on this album. Is Esham still underground? You betcha. This album didn't sell any more copies than it would have had he not dissed Eminem from all sides, but that's not even what this album's about. As always, Esham is being experimental and controversial. That's why his true admirers follow his career. No filler and no skits! Esham doesn't let up with the entertainment on this truely unconventional rap album with brilliant experiments and memorable collaborations by big underground rap stars and the porno chick, of course.

Simply Mind BLowing!,
By A Customer

There is not much to say except this whole album is great. D-12 & Eminem are huge fans too, afterall, they named their full length LP after an Esham title. Eminem also sites Esham as a role model on the his LP. Not to mention the acid rap stuff. Esham invented that Acid Rap that Eminem claims to have heard and been affected by...LOL....Esham is ahead of time and space and can't be touched. His music is soooo hard, yet smooth. The CD has 24 tracks with no skits or interludes/intros, and features some of the most unique sounds in rap, bar none. Esham is, and always will be, underrated but his skills keep elevating. Esham is Detroit rap and has influenced all those Detroit bands your listening to so check him out! BUY IT!

Esham's Best!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Tongues (Audio CD)
This album is almost imposible to describe, but it is definetley E's best. The beats are unlike anything I have ever heard in all of hip hop and boy is it wicket! His lyrics and rapping style are off the wall. If you have been disappointed in Esham's recent albums you got to hear this one. I was feeling every song. I can't really review it you just have to hear it for yourself. If you don't know about Esham this is an excellent place to start. If you hate Eminem get this album. Esham maybe the first rapper with the guts to really diss that ... rapper. E really tears him up on this!! Can't wait for the new ...!!!

Esham flips the script again!!!,

at first listen, the new Esham album may seem unorganized and definatly bizarre but after listening to it all week, I think Esham is back to re-define the term "acid rap"..here is over 20 tracks of some of the most hardcore underground rap to drop this summer..Esham's beats on this album are backed by electronic beeps, haunting keyboards, and all sorts of hi-tech fuzz. Lyrically, Esham is in top form on TONGUES. He is mad and vents through acidic and drugged out musicscapes. The songs don't always follow any form and sometimes like to switch without warning. This is a very experimental album for Esham and may catch fans off hand but it takes some getting use to. Some tracks that I liked right away was the opener "Walkin On Da Flatline" that drops an amazing beat and lets the underground know The Unholy is back. Also "Mr.Negativity", "GOD", "Devilsh*t" caught my ear because of their bizzare edge...almost every other song has an Eminem diss in it and that can get repetitive but still this is recommended to the hardcore Esham fan..

There is alot of crap in rap today. There is 50 cent who is a dammed buster who got capped 15 times like some crack head. You got the little 15 minutes of fame kracker M&M. And a whole list of repetative bull crap that was'nt interesting in the first place.
If you want something different, this is for you. His style is sadistic, it's just a dammed shame he can't get his buisness stablized. His old lable went under and he was just not a fit at Psychopathic records. I'm not saying Psychopathic is bad, I'm just saying Esham is a better solo-ist or while working with N.A.T.A.S. BTW- It's always fun hearing this guy attacking M&M since M&M bit his whole dammed style and just added a Puerto Rican Chick's Flow to it. (U know M&M sounds like a Puerto Rican chick, just close you eyes and listen)

esham duz it again,

This review is from: Tongues (Audio CD)
esham has done it again, his first classic was Boomin words, next kkkill the fetus, then closed casket, then dead flowerz, a few other classics and not to forget all the natas classics he was in, and now this. this album is just too awesome to explain. every song practically is a banger, but my favourite cuts are Walking On Da Flatline, Chemical Imbalance, God, Detroit 101, Mr Negativity, All Night Everyday, Envy The Sunshine (song to his daughter, and eminem tries to copy him less than a year later but failed badly), and Gloczup. What makes this album even better is he disses that f4ggot eminem...and disses him hard. no joke, there has been proof that eminem really is gay, and its good that esham dissed this faker on this album, because eminem copies everything that esham did and duz it like 10 years later. what a w4nka, eminem can go to hell. esham is the unholy rapper who invented acid rap, and the king of acid rap he is, and he is the king of detroit rap.

Esham Retiring??????,

Ok, first of all if you hate eminem, than i say pick up this cd. You will enjoy the disses about him on pretty much every other song. Eminem cant mess with esham. But anyways, back to the review. Tongues, although not as good as some of his previous efforts, is a pretty good cd. Esham has definately stayed evil on this cd and has NOT sold out, which is a bonus. Of course, there are some flawed tracks, but there are more good songs than bad. I also heard in a previous interview that he was retiring from rapping but is gonna focus on movies and mainly producing other acts. So this might be the last Esham cd ever. Pick it up. And remember to pick up Natas Godlike when it comes out. Peace.
