Book Description

May 19, 2007
After a hectic first year of graduate school and working, Myella McBride just needs a release and to let off some steam, but little does she know across the room destiny could await in the form of the battleship of masculinity, parting the sea of people and making his way towards her. Mya's workload for her masters in English literature while teaching overloaded sections of English composition has left her wanting and on the verge of burning out. At the persistence of her free-spirited best friend, she decides to take advantage of Memorial Day weekend, the first collective opportunity around Chi-Town to shed the cold weather frocks and don something crazy, sexy, and cool, before she retreats to the pseudo security of her books. All she is looking for is some fun and a little harmless flirting with the background of good music to groove to, because unlike her friend, she does not believe the panacea to everything is a man. Besides everyone knows you cannot meet a good, quality man at the club. In walks Trévon Threat, all-star pro linebacker, charming, handsome, and intelligent. This intriguing modern day gladiator blows her mind and all her preconceived notions about the spoiled self-indulgent conceited athlete. This man with the intimidating name and ferocious occupation spawns emotions and awakens feelings she didn't realize she was capable of feeling. The commonality of past sorrows and mutual interest, along with preternatural chemistry forms a solid, special bond of friendship that grows into more. A painful past, with a mentally and emotionally abusive mother and a failed four-year long-distance relationship with an unfaithful boyfriend, has left her with steamer trunks of suppressed baggage. When Mya initially avoids the pitfalls of this baggage and overcomes her fears, she is able really to give her heart for the first time. A dream romance develops between the two friends, but is friendship, romance, and love enough for them to maneuver through the sexual politics of a new relationship and find their way back together, while combating an onslaught of jealousy, envy, insecurity, temptation, and miscommunication, which is only compounded by Tré's high-profile career and outside foes?

The Venue: The Playing Field of Love

The Rookie: Mya

Myella McBride's workload has left her wanting and on the verge of burning out, so she decides she is going out and sheds the cold weather frocks to don something crazy, sexy, and cool, before she retreats to the pseudo security of her books. All Mya is looking for is some fun and a little harmless flirting, because she does not believe the panacea to everything is a man, and everyone knows you cannot meet a good, quality man at the club. Little does she know, across the room destiny could await, in the form of the battleship of masculinity, parting the sea of people and making his way towards her.

Is she ready to get in the game, or is she content just riding the bench, being a spectator?

The Veteran: Tré

Over walks Trévon Threat, all-star pro linebacker, charming, handsome, and intelligent. This intriguing modern day gladiator blows Mya's mind and all her preconceived notions about the spoiled self-indulgent conceited athlete. Tré is conscientious and generous; he cares about the community, volunteers tirelessly, and loves his mama. This man with the intimidating name and ferocious occupation spawns emotions and awakens feelings she did not realize she was capable of feeling.

Is he ready to share his playing time with the rookie and show her some moves on the playing field?

The Game: Love

With the commonality of past sorrows and mutual interests, not to mention preternatural chemistry, Mya and Tré form a solid, special bond of friendship, but they have to maneuver through a blitz of love's fumbles, dropped passes, penalties, interceptions, and sacks.

Will they win, will they lose, or will they GIVE IN?

More About the Author

Mia A. Moore grew up in Illinois approximately thirty miles west of Chicago, Illinois. She studied English literature at the University of Illinois at Chicago, earning her first degree, a Bachelors of Arts on Mother's Day with her family by her side. While caring for her young family, she continued her studies at the university, attending graduate school and teaching undergraduate English composition.

Mia has been making up and writing stories of love and romance since as long as she can remember. She has always had a passion for literature, writing, communication, rhetoric, and language. Even though, it may seem as if she was always destined to traverse the path of the romance writer, her vision was not always so clear when it came to her destiny. Recent life changes, like Lasik, have brought destiny in clear, full focus. Mia is ready and it is on! She writes romantic contemporary fiction with stories of love and life that happens to be categorized as romance. Her debut novel, Tonight I Give In, was released June 2007 by Xpress Yourself Publishing, and she is currently working on her second novel.

As a writer, it is not just about telling great stories but constructing literature at the same time where the stories are fresh, hip, and hot, yet have the complexity of employing and utilizing real literary technique and device. She writes with an understanding that respect, friendship, chemistry, and intimacy are all the catalysts for romantic love with longevity, and endeavors to create well-developed, multi-layered stories of love and romance with believable human beings at the center. Mia writes novels with perfectly flawed, round, dynamic characters located within the framework of emotionally complex storylines, defined by friendship, romance, intimacy, sensuality, passion, and love. She desires to entertain with engrossing stories in which the reader will become emotionally invested, free of gratuitous drama--drama just for the sake of drama without a well-constructed purpose. Her ultimate goal is to make you laugh, cry, think, and believe.

On a personal note, Mia loves spending time with her family. When she is not writing, her interests include reading, shopping, cooking, and volunteering. She also likes listening to music, playing an occasional video game, and watching sports. Mia is an avid sports fan. During March Madness, she is seriously into "bracketology" and practically sequesters herself at game time (there really is nothing like the tournament). Her favorite channel is the NFL Network. Mia really loves football like a man, but truly appreciates certain aspects of the game like a woman. ;-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Sometimes You Have To Let Go, November 6, 2007
This review is from: Tonight I Give In (Paperback)
Tonight I Give In by Mia A. Moore takes us into the lives of Myella McBride and Trévon Threat. Myella or Mya, as she is called by her friends, is a young woman who knows what she wants out of life. She is a 23 year-old woman who is working on her Masters degree in English and teaching undergraduate composition. The only thing missing from her life is someone to share it with; not that she is complaining.

Over the Memorial Day weekend, Mya decides to blow off a little steam and hang out with her best friend, Nachelle, before the summer semester starts. While they are out they meet two gentlemen, Jay and Tré, who play for the Chicago Bears. After a couple of dances, Nachelle and Jay decide that they should all go out and grab some breakfast. Reluctantly Mya agrees. However things do not quite turn out the way Mya thinks when Nachelle and Jay decide to skip out on breakfast once everyone arrives at their destination, leaving Mya and Tré to get better acquainted.

What follows is a friendship that Mya and Tré never planned on, but seems to be right on time. As time progresses, they find themselves falling for each other but afraid to say something. Will Mya be able to throw caution to the wind, let go of her past hurts and allow Tré to be the love of her life?

I loved this book. I found that it mirrored a lot of real life situations where people get caught up in past hurts, jealousy, communication, and trust issues. I loved how the characters related to each other. I would have liked there to have been more dialogue between the characters, but it did not take away from the story. Overall this was a wonderful read. Ms. Moore has a wonderful future ahead of her and I cannot wait to read her next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars (4.5 stars) Primordial Counterpart, November 9, 2007
This review is from: Tonight I Give In (Paperback)
Myella McBride, known affectionately as Mya to her close friends and family, is all work with very little time to play games when it comes to the opposite sex. Poised, educated, and the poster child for sophistication, don't be fooled by the little suburban chick, cause she has an inner sista girl that you don't want to meet. She and her best friend, Nachelle, decide to set off the beginning of summer by partying in Chi-town. While Mia agrees to go, she's doubtful that she'll meet anyone worth remembering.

Tre the Threat, the Chicago Bears linebacker, and his boy Jay are out enjoying the city of winds' nightlife. Unlike others who are in the lime light, Tre is a conscientious brother who uses his resources and time in order to help others. While video vixens and model chicks may be vying for his time, Tre ain't about the skeeze.

Sparks fly as the interception blitzes into an unyielding friendship. While it's apparent to those around them that what they have is dynamic, they both fight to maintain their friendship. When the two can no longer deny what's visible, flags on the field cause them to fumble. Will they be able to recover, or are they willing to bench the inevitable?

I love to read period. But those books that rep for my city, they really do something to me. I was a little stumped when I realized Mia A. Moore was doing the timeless fairy tale, but I'm pleased to announce that it was peppered with her own unique style. But I do need real sex in a book. Tonight I Give In is a great story and I'm looking forward to Mia A. Moore's sophomore release.

I love how Mia Moore puts it down in her debut novel "Tonight I Give In". She introduces us to Mya and Trevon. Mya to me seemed like she wanted love but was scared of it and Trevon is every womens' dream man. This story will have you crying , hoping, wishing and laughing as Mya and Trevon go through their escapades.

Great job Mia! Many Blessings to you! (wink)
