5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Sequel to Portable Sounds!, February 15, 2010
By
This review is from: Tonight Limited Deluxe Ed (Bonus Dvd) (Dlx) (Audio CD)
I bought a copy of TobyMac's latest CD album, "Tonight" from Family Christian Stores on its release date. The employee at the store was kind enough to sell me one of the "pre-bought" copies of the Limited Deluxe Edition of the album. :-) I started listening to it in my car on the way home and from the get-go, it definitely felt like a sequel to the best-selling album Portable Sounds. The album includes a diversity of different sounds and beats. From a more traditional rock style to hip hop and dance, the CD includes both heart-pumping rhythms and sincere heart-felt love songs. Already a hit song "City on Our Knees," is a call to action for many Christians, as the song says "Tonight's the night".

The album includes dance tracks "Funky Jesus Music", "ShowStopper" and "Tonight". The song "ShowStopper" may appear during the Winter Olympics 2010 and on the NFL Network. The album features John Cooper from the band Skillet, artist Beckah Shae and Matthew Thiessen from Relient K, as well as the members of the Diverse City Band, which includes DJ Maj, Shon Lock, B. "Da Bomb" Haley, Gabereal, Nirva Dorsaint-Ready, Tim Rosenau, Toddie Funk and Dave "dDubb" Wyatt.

One thing I liked about this Deluxe Edition is the fact that it includes a Bonus DVD with approximately 70 minutes of content, i.e., behind the scenes, making of, on tour footage, and Gospel Music Channel's Faith and Fame. You get to see TobyMac's journey from his early childhood, the dcTalk days, to where he's at today. It's informative, honest, and fun to watch.

If you're a TobyMac fan and enjoyed his prequel album, Portable Sounds, you won't be disappointed with Tonight!!! :-)

This product was very cool. I was a little disappointed at first because I already had most of the album on a different cd. But over all I am very glad I bought it. I enjoyed listening to the three remix songs on it and the video that came in the product. It tells about toby's life. I LOVE tobyMac!

I didn't think I'd care for this as hip-hop isn't a type of music in my world. Toby Mac has put together a really nice mix and it really isn't hip-hop oriented. The tunes are a mix of fast and slow that are really pleasant to listen to. I don't have my CD handy but the only odd tune is the final cut which is probably included as a filler or a joke--I can't determine which. We play the CD often even though its been out for quite awhile.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Making of a Classic, cont., March 30, 2010

The lead song, Tonight is muy beuno with a sweet flowing sound. "With hearts that want more tonight" is there any reason to wait any longer? Following the same vein are Start Somewhere and City on Our Knees. Start Somewhere says to me--after all it's just the world stuff, put it aside and get moving on what God wants. City on Our Knees has a soft rhythem background, but it's the words that are important here. If something's important enought to do, what are we waiting for? "Two world's collide"--says to me--endless possibilities of what we can do, where we can go. Loud N Clear, is cute, Trudog is a crackerjack, but no pressure here, on this representative of the next generation. Showstopper is upbeat, kids just having fun in a positive way. This is heavy beat song, so instead of just lean with us, get ready to jump with us. Get Back Up is likeable, having two different styles that work well together well, but that's tobyMac, I can hear--love calling, love calling-- in the back of my head in some difficult situations. Captured has the hint of "Consume Me", let me get into God more and more. A heavy idea, but what I like most is the scrappy sound. Changed Forever is a bang up perforance by Nirva, a just love it sound with a big league message. Hold On--now did I hear that right? "Hold onto The Hand that's holding you" What a concept--God's already got a hold of me, but I have to take an acitve part and hold onto God, too? And then, Break Open the Sky, love that easy does it Jamacian influence and a reminder this world is not our home, "waiting for a crack in the sky" beautiful way to end the album.

Verder is een bonus DVD meegeleverd met daarop 70 minuten extra's: de Making Of The Album "Tonight", From Studio To Stage, Behind the Songs Of Tonight en The Gospel Music Channel's Faith & Fame interview.

Veelzijdigheid blijft TobyMac's troefkaart. Tonight is om te smullen.

This is a WONDERFUL CD. I do LOVE all of the songs, but song #3, "Funky Jesus Music" is hilarious and wonderful. It just makes me want to dance, and smile and everything at one.

If you don't have it...GET IT!! NOW.

You will be happy.
