Two short DVDs make for a total of 98 minutes!, February 16, 2005
This review is from: The Tonight Show - Comedians Vol. 1 & 2 (Amazon.com Exclusive) (DVD)
For some reason less than an hour is on each DVD and most interviews with the comics have been edited out. Surly more could have been included. Fortunately we do get to see the interview portions with Drew Carey and Rodney Dangerfield. They are priceless! Rodney is even better when working off of Johnny & Ed than on his stand-up routine.
Strangely, it is George Carlin who falls flat! I was looking forward to seeing him, and I was disappointed. Making jokes about hitting someone with your car and running away, because you shouldn't care, JUST ISN'T FUNNY! This must have been George's "stoned-out" period that he talks about today. He is just not funny. His inclusion must be only because he is a big name.
But the others are great, they have to be. This is their big break appearance on The Tonight Show!
To get your money's worth, buy the 2-disc combo. But you will need to store them carefully as they come in cheap flimsy cardboard holders that do not lock closed.

See Where All Great Comics Started, November 29, 2006
This review is from: The Tonight Show - Comedians Vol. 1 & 2 (Amazon.com Exclusive) (DVD)
During his reign as the King of Latenight - it was every comic's dream to perform for Johnny Carson. These DVDs have all the greats - many on their first appearances.... Seinfeld, Drew Cary, George Carlin, Rita Rudner, Steve Martin - they all found fame on Carson. This is a great look back at the beginnings of their careers.
