5.0 out of 5 stars Real healing
Laurel Elizabeth Keyes takes you through the long history of toning as used by healers, shamen and priests from many ancient cultures. She then explains very clearly how to tone for yourself and for others. After just the first try I felt fanatastic, and have continued to do so! This is a very practical, easy to understand book with lots of sound advice - no pun...

3.0 out of 5 stars My Minus
I feel that the author expresses more of her personal beliefs, rather than facts, about Toning. On a less important note, I personally don't like the way she talks about rock music as if it's a negative influence. It kinda turned me off.

I thoroughly recommend this for anyone searching for their own wellness, relief from pain, healing for themselves and others or personal development.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple and practical book to get you started, November 4, 2004

This review is from: Toning: The Creative Power of the Voice (Paperback)
The author begins the book with her own spontaneous discovery of the power of toning and then provides suggestions, exercises and case histories from her own and other people's experiences with toning.

You may recall many instances in your own life when letting a sound, maybe even a simple "ouch" helped to alleviate the discomfort, as well as other instances when you'd let out different sounds to express the feeling of great satisfaction and pleasure.

As you experiment focusing with different vowels, you may become aware of different sensations in your body and of changes occurring in your emotions. Letting some sounds out freely helps to release blocked and pent-up energy, while other sounds help to bring about balance and harmony.

4.0 out of 5 stars Looking for Practical Results, August 18, 2011

To make a long story short, I recently became interested in concepts about voice, vibration and health. I was looking for a "how to book" in terms of the practical application of using voice tone to shift vibration. What I really liked about this book was the recurring statement that toning is a simple process that is learned by doing it on a daily basis. At the same time, I feel a little frustrated and a little disappointed that the instructions seem a little hit and miss and are not more fully fleshed out and detailed. Feeling that way is something of a contradiction in terms, so maybe the author is on the right track but not providing a solid handhold for my analytic brain. Sigh! As everyone knows, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and my final rating of this book will depend upon the outcome of my experiments with the toning as a means of improving my overall energy and well being. I will have to update my review at that time. Until then, I am contenting myself with a three star review because the content is not organized in the way that I think it should be.
