Product Description

Amazon.com Review

The Tonka Dig'n Rigs Playset is one of those very rare products that really does educate and entertain on a parallel level. As much toy as it is a piece of software, the digger controls (steering wheel, ignition key, horn, and three control levers) will amuse little hands for hours, while the CD-ROM works by presenting children with a number of "jobs" or activities, and getting them to complete tasks and interact with the onscreen action. This not only encourages youngsters to react to instructions, but also enhances hand-to-eye coordination and fosters an understanding of cause and effect.

It is also a superb way of introducing youngsters to the PC and keyboard. Chunky, imaginative, and, more importantly, possessing ultimate play appeal for children (what child ever tires of pushing buttons, turning wheels, and pulling and pushing levers?), it is a fantastic way of refining gross motor skills to the finer level required for mice and keys.

But probably the best thing about this set, from a parental point of view, is its ease of installation and portability. Just place it over the keyboard and it slots into place. A belt then straps around the keyboard to hold it in place when your toddler inevitably gets excited. And, when it becomes the favorite toy of the moment, it is easy to pop in a bag and take to Grandma's (whether she has a PC or not!). It is a superb toy and developmental aid that kids will love and parents will feel good about. --Lucie Naylor

Amazon.com Product Description

This PC-compatible CD-ROM playset fits on top of your keyboard and features a driving wheel, a key, a gearshift, and lift controls, so budding young construction workers can get creative. Join Tonka Joe at one of four work sites, pick your rig, and complete a variety of construction jobs. Bulldoze, excavate, swing the wrecking ball, power the forklift, and more. Also included are four skill-building games, which promote color matching, hand-eye coordination, following directions, and problem solving. You can also print decals, vehicle information, coloring pages, and certificates for a job well done. The playset fits most standard Windows keyboards; it is not intended for use on laptops or ergonomic keyboards.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Truck/Construction Software I've Seen, August 11, 2000
By
This review is from: Tonka Dig'n Rigs Playset (CD-ROM)
We have Tonka Contruction 2, Tonka Workshop, and Fisher Price Big Action Construction -- all good toys. We just got Dig 'n Rigs the other day and I'd have to say that this toy is an order of magnitude better than the others. The user interface is excellent - everything is in 3D, yet it's easy to navigate. It allows kids to actually drive the trucks from the truck lot to various construction sites, then operate the fairly realistic controls. The game has more degrees of freedom than Tonka Workshop. My son (not quite 3 years old yet) would easily sit at the computer and play this game for hours if I let him.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best!, October 14, 2000

This review is from: Tonka Dig'n Rigs Playset (CD-ROM)
I just recently purchased this for my 4 year old son and it's a huge success. It's hard finding software for him. Some kids still have trouble using the keyboard to play games and this is definetely not hard to use. If your child is very much into trucks, cars and all that, he/she will love this game. Jessy

My son is at this game for hours. I have to drag him away from it kicking and screaming just to get a turn at my computer! I thought hooking it up would be more involved, but you just strap it to your keyboard. Very simple to use. My little guy plays unassisted while I do my housework. He learned basic mouse function from other great programs like jumpstart toddler so he has no problem getting around this game. GREAT purchase- I highly recommend it.
