For months, my little boy has been asking for a "pweece car". He had several already but none were large like this one so we assumed he wanted a bigger toy. He started asking a few months before he turned 3 and continued asking until we bought this toy for him a few weeks after his birthday. We selected it on the basis of price and the Tonka name.

He was delighted when he saw it and spent the better part of an hour pushing the sound effect buttons repeatedly. He wound up losing interest in it pretty quickly, though, and rarely plays with it anymore, a mere four days later.

What's good:
* sound effects, while loud, aren't particularly annoying, at least to my ear
* nice good size
* not terribly expensive (and I think they're quite a bit cheaper if you can find them in a big-box store)

What's not:
* very cheap construction - if your kid puts his weight into it when he pushes the toy around, there's a chance the car could be crushed
* details are poor. Lithos misaligned and peeling right out of the package

I have certainly bought worse toys in the past, but I probably wouldn't recommend this car.

UPDATE DEC 1 2013:
Just wanted to say that my now almost-5-year-old still pulls this out periodically, and it is still working just fine almost 2 years after it first came into the house. It's very easy on batteries too. FYI.

My toddler loves this police car. We saw one at our local Children's Museum and he absolutely had to have it. He has lots of fun with it and the sounds are so realistic.

A few months ago, we bought our grandson a set of small "Lights and Sounds" fleet vehicles, and he took a particularl liking to the small police car, carrying it with him everywhere. For Christmas we bought him the larger version of the police car, and it is among his favorite toys. I don't see him losing interest in it any time soon, and so far it is holding up well to 3-year-old rough-housing. For kids who are in to cars and trucks, I highly recommend it. It has a few different sounds to simulate the variable sounds available on real cop cars.

Toy was clearly used and returned. Stickers were already on the car (and messed up) and the car windshield and hood had lots of scratches from previous play. We ordered a NEW toy. If we had taken it out of the box for inspection prior to Christmas Eve, we would have returned it and ordered from someone else. It does work but was in VERY disappointing shape.
