Tonka: "Mighty Backhoe" - Steel 30" Construction Vehicle

I got this backhoe for my 3 year old last year and it has put up with more abuse than any toy should have to face -yet it still works well & looks fine. My son has had an enormous amount of fun playing with it, riding on it, attacking his sister with it, etc. and it keeps coming back for more. Don't bother with motorized plastic, this is the real thig!

My husband and I can't keep our hands off of the Tonka Mighty Backhoe. When our 2 yr. old grandson comes for the day or just a short visit, we play pickup the matchbox cars with this great machine, we can't wait till the weather is warmer to take it outside in the flowerbed, then our grandson can dig the holes for our flower seeds. He absolutely loves this big truck, it is the first thing he goes for when he enters the house. We are hoping to purchase other Tonka trucks such as this one, even though this one is 10 years old, it still looks and works like new. Can't say enough about it, has really improved our grandson's coordination with having to move 2 levers to be able to pick up his cars and them "dump" them into the dump truck. He really enjoys picking up his toys, now that we have made it fun, and also a team effort. Don't know who enjoys playing with it more, him or us.

My 3 yr old counts 2 of these (don't ask) amongst his collection of 17 (don't ask) Tonkas. These are, by far, his favorites. Crack of dawn finds him out in the sandbox digging away. The ability of these toys to take abuse is consistent with that of all Tonkas. It's very high. They get crashed, bashed, and knocked around; left out in the rain; left out in the sun; and live in the very abrasive conditions of our wet Seattle sandbox. The sole evidence these have of the rough life they lead is the fading of the stickers. The paint colors have held up great, but in one season of use the sticker colors have faded almost completely away. One other issue: largely for the better these toys haven't been dumbed down or made "safer" over the last few years. This means that the corners are somewhat sharp- fine for our 3 yrd old to handle, but our 18 month old daughter has more fun with the (equally durable) processed plastic Tonka Backhoe ... . It doesn't seem to hurt her hands a bit when she holds it hard against the attempts of her brother to add a third backhoe to his side of the sandbox.

I bought this backhoe, the front loader, and the dump truck for my 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 year old boys. The quaility is great and we love the steroid size of these classic construction vehicles! My children really dig these huge toys. They get lots of imaginative and creative play with these construction toys as well as practice with hand-eye dexterity and manipulation. There is so much fun to have in piles of sand, rocks, gravel, or plain old dirt!

"Santa" got my 5 yr old son this toy for Christmas last year, and it is by far his favorite. He is a construction and farm toy fanatic! He is also very high-strung and hard on his toys. This toy has put up with a lot of use and abuse and works great! Definitely a good pick!

My son is 3 and has about a dozen construction vehicles, but none large than a few inches long, so this is his first major piece. He loves it. It is a hands on toy with moving parts allowing him to actually "dig." It requires some learning to use properly, and some effort to move the parts, but with some practice I think any child who really wants to can master it.

We purchased the Tonka Mighty Backhoe and the Tonka Mighty Dump Truck for my son for Christmas this year. As a child, I had numerous Tonka trucks, and I can remember how much fun I had playing with them. Although plastic has replaced some of the parts that used to be steel, these trucks are still built strong for hours of fun play, either indoors or outdoors. As for the backhoe, it has a strongly-built cab and handles for the child to hold on to while operating the backhoe. This is an improvement from when I was a child. The backhoe bends in two places, so picking up small objects is very easy. The wheels are made of a sturdy plastic. I highly recommend this fun toy. Combine it with another Tonka vehicle to give your child hours of construction fun.

I have 3 sons ages 5 1/2 yrs. 3 1/2 yrs. & 20 mo. All 3 of them love this toy.They love to take it outside. I love tonka trucks...they last forever & this toy is not just for boys. I played with tonkas when I was a little girl:)

Do you have a mighty machine fan in your house? If so, you cannot go wrong with one of these Tonka toys! They last forever, are very well constructed, and are practically age-free for enjoyment!

This is a toy that works great in combination with the Tonka Mighty Dump Truck.

My nephew normally is glued to computer games, but this toy actually got him to play outside for a change.

It is durable and works best when the child has access to dirt/sand.
