5.0 out of 5 stars All Kids love it!
I bought this crane for my 3 year old girl who has seen cranes at a big job sight in our town. She is fascinated by them. Having one in our house keeps her busy picking up dolls, cars, cows, and everything else. It is sturdy and safe. She learns that turning the crank one way brings it up and turning it the other puts it down (cause and effect). All kids that come over go...

My son got this crane and the Mighty Backhoe for birthday and Christmas last year. He really wanted the crane and had asked Santa for it, so even though he already had the backhoe, we (Santa) got him the crane. He played with it at first, but lately it sits idle while he plays with the backhoe. I think the crane mechanism is just too much work to operate, and you can't really do anything with it unless you let go of the handles and manually open the crane jaws to pick something up. Plus the string comes untied from the crane bucket at least once a week. All in all, I would say the crane is cool to look at, but the backhoe is a much more usable and fun toy to play with.

This is a great looking truck that really excited my 4-year old at first. It quickly became frustrating for him because the arm would collapse and the string would come undone and get jammed. We have the other 3 trucks in this line and absolutely love them. Skip the crane!

3.0 out of 5 stars A little disappointed, September 21, 2004

I am a big fan of the metal Tonka trucks. My son has the dump truck (which he loves) and the backhoe (which he also loves). I bought the crane thinking it would be a great addition to his backyard fleet. For the most part it is, however if your child is rough and tough like my 3 year old, you might encounter some problems. For one thing it kept tipping over when he would try to operate it and then the bucket came off and had to be retied on. He still plays with it but I was a little disappointed in Tonka on this one.

My 10 year old nephew plays with it all weekend when he visits. EXCELLENT!!

this is a pretty cool toy! My son is in love with construction type toys. it's really much bigger than i expected. my only concerns are that the arm that moves the boom is made of plastic and doesn't lock in to the slots that adjust the height of the crane very well. also depending on the position it tips easily when he is using it to lift heavy things.

these toys are ideal for kids who tend to break their toys. tonkas are nearly indestructible and for around 20 bucks you would expect some cheap plastic look alike.even the rubber parts like smoke stacks are nearly impossible to break off. these toys will last forever.

4.0 out of 5 stars Outside and inside enjoyment, January 24, 2002

My 4 1/2 old son enjoys playing with the Mighty Crane in mulch, snow, or with blocks in the house. The bucket came unattached at one point, although he hadn't been playing with it for that long. When I try to put it away (as his toys clutter our living room area), he always objects and retrieves it from his room. Could have more features, but as toys go, it is a favorite and is played with often.

Growing up with Tonka in the 60's and 70's, I was surprised at the ammount of plastic now used for various parts. Also, the handle that is supposed to "lock" into one of two positions, does not lock. I had to stick a rolled up piece of cardboard in it to keep it from continually falling down. The crane itself is thin plastic, and I do not expect it to last. My advice; buy a vintage one on e-bay.

I had a much older one of these when I was little that I recently found at my moms house. It was a little rusty but it still worked. I wanted to give my nephew a similar toy since he saw my old one and wanted it. I haven't seen this in stores and was amazed to find it one here. I remember how much fun I had playing with it and my other tonka toys when I was growing up so I am sure that my nephew will enjoy this for as much and as long as I did.

He's pretty rough on toys but still hasn't destroyed this one. I would recommend it to everyone.

We got this for our 3-year-old son last Christmas, and he was thrilled with it. He played with it for about 5 minutes and was very frustrated because the arm would not stay in place, it kept crashing down no matter how securely kid (or parents) would try to set it in place. Unsafe for fingers or anyone in the way of the arm when it goes. We tried playing with it for a few days and ended up exchanging it for the excavator instead, which was a big disappointment -- this had been his very favorite thing under the tree. Extremely poor engineering on this one.
