4.0 out of 5 stars needs a little improvement
This toy doesnt really stay together. I have been constantly reassembling it. another reviewer was correct that you need a tiny screwdriver to put in the batteries and requires almost a whole package of AA's. You need to use this on a table or for some reason the truck doesnt go back into the garage properly and cant get out either. Also, my 4 yr old had a tendency to...

My husband and I bought this toy for our son for Christmas. WHAT A MISTAKE! Although he likes Chuck, he would really like to be able to push him around more than watch him go in circles. He likes the boulders too. This toys is designed TERRIBLE!! I spend more time putting it back together than anything. The kids in my house range in age from 1 1/2-7 and it falls apart on all of them. I would not reccomend spending [money] on this toy. You can get a lot better for your money on other things. I wrote a complaint to Hasbro we will see what they have to say for themselves. I would have returned it for a refund, but my son does like chuck and the boulders so I can't. I will NEVER by a TOnka Town toy again. What a rip-off

My son received this as a gift, and it appeared as though it was going to be REALLY neat. If they would have put sensors at the different stations, it could be a really fun toy, but as it is, it is pretty lame, the "track" doesn't stay together worth a darn, and all the truck does is drive around and then go back into the garage. It really is on the cusp of being really cool, but it is like they had to stay under $xx on the toy, so they came up with a cool truck/garage, and matched it with garbage for the rest.

Please...save yourself the money and DO NOT purchase this toy. It looks really cool, but within minutes of assembly it will fall apart and leave you with a fussy, frustrated child. Since my husband usually does the "assembly" work on our son's toys, I figured I did something wrong putting it together...NOPE...It is just that cheaply made. Too bad. My son likes the idea of it. I have reassembled this toy a dozen times in a few hours and I am ready to return it! The model I bought is actually the Police Station version and it sounds like they all have the same issues.

1.0 out of 5 stars Chuck does what?, January 3, 2003

What exactly is Chuck supposed to do? After watching commericals and looking at the box in the toy store, I thought the truck would actually stop different places: the chute, loading dock and then to the garage. All the truck does is drive out of the garage, moves in a circle or two and then goes back into the garage!

Sending Match Box cars down the chute and loading dock, and pushing Chuck around and dumping the boulders are more fun for my 3 year old than watching the truck drive in circles. If you are going to purchase this toy, don't bother with the batteries, they're not worth it. I am very disappointed with this toy.

Also, my 4 yr old had a tendency to move the truck even though it moves my itself and to hold down the garage door when it closes by itself so maybe it needs to be for children a little older. You also need a pretty open space to use it or the truck will drive itself off the table or keep bumping into you. I think my son would have more fun playing with it if he could move the truck himself , because i have to keep telling him to stop touching it because it moves by itself (what fun is it just to watch??)

4.0 out of 5 stars Not worth buying, November 21, 2003

I have the Tonka Town Police Station and have had similar problems with the pieces coming apart. The trucks that go with the set are big favorites (they all have faces on them) in my home, however. Buy the trucks individually and use them with some other type of construction or garage playset that is more durable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Technology, November 20, 2003

This is the smartest toy on the market. My 4 year old son and 18 month old daughter giggle as they watch Chuck the Truck navigate around our living room and I am marveled when Gary the Garage says "peek a boo I can't see you" the cue for Chuck the Truck to find his way home. Chuck turns, backs up and turns some more as he seeks his way back into the garage. The hands on contruction site is easy for partents to assemble and if your little one happens to knock it down (time and time again, like mine does) it never breaks. After 2 1/2 months of constant use, I must say that Chuck is in need of repair - his back wheel doesn't move and therefore he doesn't turn very well. I'm purchasing a second truck as I'm willing to take the chance that I just may have had some bad luck with my first truck, and hopefully the second will last much longer.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ripped ..., December 28, 2002

I bought this toy for my 3 year old son who loves to play with trucks. I put it together with minimal effort. However, every time my son trys to lift the loader with the boulders in it or dumps them down the shute he has to hold the main frame down with his other hand because it does not work smoothly. If he uses too much force or moves it from one location to the next the legs fall off and the whole thing comes apart. The garage part of it is very hard to understand. The voice box is very muffled. There is also no shut off button for the garage, so as long as the truck is within a certain radius of the garage the thing keeps talking long after play with my child has stopped. At the price ... plus 7 batteries to get it all to work, I feel this product was highly over priced and I got ripped off. This toy will be in the attic (or trash) very soon due to the frustration my child gets from it falling apart every time he tries to play with it.
