5.0 out of 5 stars A Working Cowboy's Favorite Music July 1, 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Most of the western music I hear latey has the same, "Nashville Pop", sound to it. DAVE STAMEY is an original, like a breath of fresh air. I've been a working cowboy for 58 years and these songs paint a picture of the life I recognize and live, everyday. The most talented writing, acoustic guitar and soleful music this cowboy has heard in a long time. I've played the the living daylights out of this CD and don't ever tire of any of the cuts. Tonapah cuts right to my soul. Everyone I've played it for loves it as well. Eddie Carter, Mule Shoe Ranch, AZ, says keep playing Dave!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Real Western Music March 15, 2004
Format:Audio CD
Another great CD from Dave Stamey. I first heard Tonopah in a little shop out on the desert near Barstow, and as soon as I did, I knew I'd found a kindred spirit. The entire CD is a work of art.
Tonopah is authentic - Dave has been a working cowboy, and raises horses. It's professional - the style is homegrown western, but the quality and the musicianship is absolutely top. No one who longs for the big sky country or desert sand should be without this CD. Buy it! And while you're at it, order his other CD's from Amazon, because as soon as you hear Tonopah you'll want them. So save yourself some shipping costs and order them now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tonopah? September 7, 2009
Format:Audio CD
Now and then I attend a series of house concerts put on by Dark Thirty Productions of Lakeside, California. Last night it was Dave Stamey. He was billed as a working cowboy who played guitar and sang western music. Oh, I might add that he was said to be an excellent songwriter and had won several "entertainer of the year" awards. Was he any good? Oh, yeah!

I suppose you'd call this country music, but don't confuse it with Nashville country. It's nothing of the sort. Maybe it would be better to call it Western Music as the themes are centered about Nevada, Eastern California and Northern Arizona and the lives of cowboys in that region. Stamey is an excellent guitarist and has a very good vocal range. Plus he's funny, both in his stage presence and in his song writing. I'd find myself chuckling again and again, and then I'd be all choked up with a tear in my eye. If you ever get the chance to see this fellow live, don't miss it. He, indeed, is a first-rate entertainer.

In any case, Dave Stamey had 8 CDs for sale, if anyone wanted one, and they seemed to be going fast. I looked over the assembled collection and focused in on "Tonopah." Tonopah? Now, who would ever put out an album and a song named after Tonopah, Nevada, that desolate little berg at the crossing of US 6 and US 95? Well, I've been there many times and Tonopah comes as a big relief after being on either of those desolate highways for hours and hours. I imagine Tonopah is also a big relief to the cowboys who work that largely uninhabited part of the great American West.

I've barely had time to check the CD out, let alone savor it. However, it's true to Stamey's music and I can tell that I'll be buying several more discs in the future. It makes an excellent remembrance of an absolutely first-rate concert.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good quality entertainment! November 13, 2013

It's an excellent album. It combines old style, true western music, with quality instrumentation and "story" in the songs. The title cut is a haunting tribute to going home to the country one belongs to. I recommend this album to anyone who enjoys the western and cowboy music genre'.
