This is the best book on composition and design I have seen. He is a watercolorist, but explains design and composition for any media. This explains the elements & principles of design in a way that you could apply the concepts in any medium. It also explains things in a way that anyone (even a non-artist) can understand it. I used it for art lessons recently. I often use it to inspire me in my art, too! It is easy to read, has great illustrations, and, wow, he's awesome!

Tony Couch is one of my favorites. I have the book of his "Watercolor You Can Do It" and am very impressed with his writing and painting. Keys to Successful Painting is awesome.
