It is a High Def Tony Hawk game. The Tony Hawk games are basically all I play because the controls work the way I think they should and they are all fun. It's been that way from the beginning and I like it. Every year I get some new places to go skate and a few new things to check out. I guess I'm just easy to please, but I love it! I'm sure that it will all be messed up by the time the next one comes out (since Neversoft is no longer on the project), so I guess this could possibly be the last one I play. Especially if they move in the direction of Skate. I just want to push some buttons and stuff happen.

Another year, another Tony Hawk game. I know I should be getting burned out from these games. When Proving Ground came out I didn't buy it right away because I felt like I had spent so much time with Project 8 when that was released that this would feel like overkill. Eventually I gave in (I'm an impulse buyer) and quickly found myself lost in the Tony Hawk world. These games do an excellent job of making you feel like you're making progress. Like an RPG, everything you do builds experience. Want to just go wall ride around an area? That's fine...it will even lead to you getting better at it. I found myself spending so much time just riding around trying to max out my stats. I don't play these games for the storylines. I play it just to have fun and complete the challenges. The game is split into separate gameplay styles, but realistically you'll go through all the storylines just to get access to all the abilities. There has been some backlash against Neversoft, the developers, for sticking to the same formula, but frankly it works. This game is FUN. It's not a skating sim (something that EA's SKATE strives for). I understand that Neversoft may switch things up with the next game in the series, but I hope they don't change the game around too much. I'd probably stop playing if they try to go too far into the sim area and leave out the fun over the top gameplay that's satisfied me for so many years.

Pretty bad,

I loved the first three tony hawk games, and having gone a while without playing on, I gave this a shot. Several times in the game the objective/goal had unclear instructions which led to a lot of frustration trying to complete simple tasks. I play a lot of games -- I can follow directions -- but these were really bad. Also, the voice acting/cut scenes are badly done and annoying. The whole "what type of skater are you" thing is a cheap gimmick, and I beat all three career paths simultaneously. The video editor is not well thought out and is a pain to use. I returned this game and got EA SKATE which is what THPS was so many years ago -- an original, fun skating game.

Definitely recommend this game. I am having a lot of fun with it. Whether that is due to all the memories being reignited from my teenage years playing Tony Hawk 2 or due to the quality of the game. Although there are a few glitches here and there, they do not stop me from having tremendous amounts of fun playing this game!!!

I was a die-hard Tony Hawk fan back in the day. I still have the first five games, from THPS to THUG. However, after THUG, it seemed that the games were kind of losing touch with their core, so I backed off. After winning a $20 gift certificate to Amazon, I figured that I would attempt to reconcile with the Tony Hawk series. After playing the game for a few days, my feelings were quite mixed.
Don't get me wrong. Proving Ground IS fun. The nail-a-trick feature isn't exactly innovative, but it somewhat makes up for the lack of create-a-trick, which was a feature that I was hoping would have been perfected by this point, remembering that it debuted in THUG. I was disappointed when I saw that it wasn't in. The same can be said for create-a-deck, which was one of my favorite features in THUG. The graphics in Proving Ground are certainly nice to look at, and I like the new camera. However, they don't really add anything to the experience. While there's plenty to look at and trick off of, the world around you just feels dry and boring. You feel almost caged in. Proving Ground is worth the $20, though I pity the ones that paid full price for it. It's Tony Hawk's best showing in the new generation of consoles, but that's really not saying much. Hopefully, they'll take some time to make improvements on the new Ride game. If they don't, I'm afraid they'll have to pull the plug on this franchise soon.

The game itself is not tough, it is actually very easy to learn, but the controls on certain moves are near impossible. Its fun to create your player and make it through to the ranks and to the top. For under [...] bucks I declare this game a must for anyone who loves the Tony Hawk games, or just wants a cheaper version of the newer games.

its the coolest tony hawk yet because of the area and how big it is and that there are a whole bunch of new trick and things you get to do, like customize your own longe into a skate park
