Wow! If you've played the original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, no doubt you were amazed. Well this one improves on the original ten-fold.

First of all, there are three new characters, including two of the godfathers of skate; Rodney Mullen and Steve Caballero (who's base stats are amazing to start with!). Also present is Eric Koston, who was recently voted best all-around skater. If you saw him in this year's X-Games, you'll know why.

Secondly, you now have the ability to create your own skateparks! There are a good number of pieces to choose from and the way things can be linked together is very nice. There are also a ton of pre-made parks in the editor that will give you ideas. Many of these are excellent in their own right and they can also be manipulated.

Thirdly, there are a TON of new tricks. All of the ones from the previous game are here, but each player can have two sets of tricks, which can be accessed by double-tapping the grab and flip buttons. This adds an incredible amount of versatility to runs and can help you to have more original lines, which is really important in contest events. Also, the inclusion of manuals is very cool. This means that instead of just normally approaching an object to trick off of, you can manual to it and this gives you constant points. Imagine some of the combos that could be achieved! It takes some getting used to, especially since it means you move more slowly and you have to manually keep your boarder's balance (no pun intended).

Fourthly, the new parks are very cool. Marseilles is the one that was included in the demo for the game, so many of you know how cool that park is already. Venice beach is nice, too. It has a lot of vert areas and even some vagrants to ollie over, I kid you not! People might miss some of the original parks, but with the park editor, you might be able to make a reasonable facsimile.

Fifthly, there is a create-a-skater mode. While it doesn't add too much to the game, it is still nice to see a skater with your name.

On top of all these factors, they've changed the level objectives quite a bit. Now instead of collecting tapes to progress, you must complete certain objectives for money. The money you earn can be used towards buying new boards, buying new tricks (including grabs, flips and specials) and boosting your created-player's stats. Also, as usual, the music in the game is fresh and should appeal to fans of several different styles. The multiplayer modes are standard, but just as awesome as before.

Well, I could say more, but what is there to say that hasn't already been said? Activision and Neversoft have really outdone themselves and continue to show a great deal of respect for the consumers. This is an incredible game in every aspect and should be in the home of every video game fan on the planet! HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION POSSIBLE!

First off, do not listen to people who say that this game is bad and has "horrible graphics or conrols" or whatever they say. The truth is, this game (so far) is the best skateboarding game ever created.

Fist off, the game has 13 pro skaters and some hidden skaters. All skaters from original THPS are here, including 3 additions. All of them have new clothes, including the ones from the first game and the 'safety gear' clothes if you don't want break yourself that easy. The game's objective in career mode is not to earn tapes, but get money. Each level has 10 objectives (5 more than in THPS). Those objectives range from finding something hidden in a level, getting a certain score or knoking things over. For that you get money and get a chance to custimize your skateboarder. You can buy new tricks (to learn), decks, wheels, trucks and raise your skater's stats whereever you need them. Want to raise Tony Hawk's rail balance stats? Do that and leave the ones that are already high.

Two main new aspects of the game is that you can create your own skater and skatepark. For your skater, you can choose his/her name, what kind of music they like, their age, choose new clothes, distribute their stats and learn new tricks. For your skatepark, you can create your own dreampark. Neversoft (the developer) confirmed that it's possible to re-create the first level of original THPS, the Warehouse. You can choose from hundreds and hundreds of items to place in your park which can be as big as you want and inside or outside. You can also load from the disk other skateparks that the developers have already created and modify them.

Overall, this game rocks. It is the last PlayStation game I going to buy, before buying PlayStation 2. The controls are very easy to get used to and the gameplay is backed up by the best skateboarding engine around. A must-buy for any PlayStation owner!

If you own THPS you aren't missing much, except the 3 new pros (Cabarrelo, Koston, and Mullen), the 8 sweet new courses, the excellent create-a-skater, the terrific soundtrack, the gobs and gobs of new tricks, the new level goals (10 total), using money to buy stats and tricks, the manual(which alone would make this a completely new experience), the 2 new multiplayer modes, the train plant(think car plant, the two new looks of the characters, and the excellent, sweet, terrific, sick, SKATEPARK CREATOR. So if you've played the original, and even if you haven't (I feel bad for you) GO BUY THIS GAME!!! Oh, and down to all those who do not give this game what it deserves- a perfect score!

Being a huge fan of the first game, I instatly knew how much I'd love the second one once I heard about it, and I was right. Tony Hawk 2 is undoubtely one of the best games ever made, and if you don't already own it, you should buy it instantly. This game does a good job of making the best even better. With two, new skaters(Eric Koston, Steve Callballero), a skatepark creator, and a skater designer, you will surley enjoy this game. As opposed to the method of winning the first game(gathering tapes and winning medals),the object of Pro Skater 2 is to perform tricks and grinds to earn money, which you can open levels and buy stats, boards, or tricks with. Also, this game has a feature that lets you choose your tricks for your skater; With a small fee of course. This game only has 12 levels, but they are absolutley HUGE, at least twice as big as the ones in Pro Skater 1. There aren't many spots where I can slam this game, but there are two. First, the player editor is not that great. The only things you can really adjust are your race, and your clothes. Also, the objectives can be frustrating. It took me an hour to find out where "T.C.'s roof gap" was in the school level. Other than that, the game is perfect. A must-have. BOTTOM-LINE: Neversoft delivers another masterpiece game

This game is untouchable. It's at a level where other games could only dream to achieve. To be honest words cannot describe this game accurately. One must play it to see all the little details and nuances of the game.

I have enjoyed playing this game for two days never once wanting to put it down. The best feature in the game is the park editor. If you get bored with a level you can just build your own at a pretty good complexity. I have built three so far and spent hours skating them. Ever since EA's Skate or Die for the Commodore 64 I have wanted a game that allows design and skate your own park. Well my dreams have come true.

So far the levels have been pretty large and quite a challenge. As in real skateboarding the complex moves take practice. There were a few instances, in tight spaces, where player control becomes an issue. This however only made me want to try harder. In each level there are quite a bit of goals to complete, which gives the game the edge. There are so many things to see and do. The levels are fun without ever becoming something tedious to go through.

The graphics are equivalent if not better than THPS. The skater's moves and tricks look amazingly realistic. One thing that impressed me was the details in the game. While playing as Steve Caballero I was ecstatic to find out I could purchase the same board he used back in '86...the exact same board that is now collecting dust in my parents basement. The number of skaters in this version are plenty. Plus a new feature in the game lets you create your own skater. I had myself in the game in no time and had catching huge air in the Marseille's skate park.

The only downside in playing the game is the lack of support for your own personal CDs while playing the game. Don't get me wrong the music included with the game is definitely skatable, it would be nice to jam to your own music, with your own customized player, in your own custom park. For a great gaming experience I recommend turning down the music volume and hook up your Playstation to a stereo receiver. The skate sounds and ambiance in each of the levels put you in the game.

It's pleasing to see such a well-crafted game on the Playstation. To all those involved, please keep up the good work on any PSX2 titles. The original game was great, but leaved me wanting more to do as a single player. Now this time around there is more to do, which will keep you coming back. The creators knew they had something going with the first game and tweaked everything in a good way to make it excellent.

This game makes a great addition to your Playstation collection offering plenty of variety for those who might be newbies at skating or have followed the pros from their beginnings.

this game is one of the best. my friend let me borrow his demo and i loved it. it made me put my pads on.it has more tricks for the skaters,more outfits 4 them and a lot more challenging. plus the career mode is real. you earn money 4 completing level goals then you can buy decks,tricks, and stats. you feel like u r hanging with hawk!tired of the boring parks? build your own! make gaps and rails. want a new boarder? create your own!mohawk or gotee? you decide! play tag with your bud or horse! like i said this game rocks!

One word: Great. Not perfect, my guy goes unconscious(floats about 1 foot off the ground at times, glitch), etc. but still a great game. I am not an XTreme sports fan(skateboarding, snowboarding, etc.) and have never played the origional, but I did play the Demo in the the Jampack Summer 2000, first demo ever to sell me a game. Great graphics, unlimited replay, make your own bloopers!, skatepark and skater creator add to the fun. If you own a PlayStation, GET THIS GAME!

Whoever says that this is the worse game should find some help. It may not live up to it's Dreamcast version, but it's pretty close. WAY better than the first game; there's so much more to do and see in the new one. Plus that, having Koston, Caballero, and Mullen, the grand daddy of all street skating, as selectable new characters in the game made it even more enjoyable. If you can't wait to pick up the game on it's release, pick up the demo (Summer Jampack). BEST SKATING GAME EVER!

If you ever played Tony Hwks Pro Skater and you suddenly found yourself in awe look for number 2. There are more skaters, you can create your own skater, you can build your own skate park, you can unlock more people, and there are tons of new tricks and levels (including some of the most famous skateparks there are. There are now 10 different goals to complete. They range from high scores to draining a fountain. In each level you must get a high score, pro score, and sick score. The points to get them vary in each level. You also must get a secret tape. The rest of the goals pretain to whats in the level and what makes sense. You cannot completely 100% the level without collecting the cash. You also get cash for completing level objectives. You can use the money to buy stats, tricks, and boards. You also unlock levels by getting money and medals. The levels are (these are in order).

The hangar: Your basic practice level. A huge halfpipe in front of you, plenty of rails to grind, and a plane and helicopter (tip, grind the propellor of the helicopter and see what happens).

School II: Remember school in the first one? There's a new one. To be honest I like School in the original better but II is pretty good too. Lots to grind but not much vert. Oh watch out for the maniac golf cart driver.

Marseille France: The first competition. Plenty of bowls and vert while the street course has places to grind and manual.

New York City: This level has everything. A subway, cabs, a statue (not the statue of liberty) and more. grind the subway rails to get a level goal and get to a different area .

Graffiti Pits, Venice Beach: Lots of vert stuff here while there is also plenty of street. Get up on the roof or ollie the magic bum. It's all good.

Plywood Paradise: A real skatepark and your second competition. If you like vert turn around and session the huge half pipe and bowl. If you like street, unlock the secret areas and hit he big points there.

Philadelphia: Philidelphia has a fountain, (tip, drain it and see what's inside) a bus, a bacony, and a hidden skatepark. The part you start in is all street but get the hidden skatepark and vert skaters have it made.

The Bullring: This is the last level. A competition. There is a bull and plenty of other things to end your career off on a good note. There's a halfpipe and crisscrossing wires up high to grap some money.

This is a must have game. Whether you are a fan of skateboarding games or not the great gameplay will keep you coming back for more!!!!!

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is no doubt the best Playstation game ever, 10x better than the first. You can do all kinds of tricks like noseblutslides, bluntslides, tailslides, noseslides, bs, and fs, overcrook, and more. If you love grinding and catching air than you would want to get this game. Manuals are awesome in the new Tony Hawk. Manuals allow you to extend your combo making you transfer to other rails while still keeping you score.
