Curiously, the graphics are still not particularly good, with the same slightly muddy, undefined look to them that the developers presumably now think is all part of the fun. They have however thankfully realized that having time limits for the levels was an unnecessary limitation and, except for a few specific missions, youve now got all the time in the world to graze your knees and cave in your skull. This is looking, as the kids on the street say, "sick." --David Jenkins

Not the best Tony Hawk, but it's getting there...,
By GuyWhoPlaysVideoGames (Huntington WV USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 (Video Game)
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 for the PS1 is a very well designed game. You can now, on the new Go Pro feature, choose which goals you want to complete. No more long checklists of goals you have to complete in 2:00. You can now take all the time you want to explore a level before doing a goal. This is one of the good qualities of the PS1 version, but, for every good quality, there is dissapointingly a bad quality. One very bad quality is that all the levels are now designed in some kind of 70's/80's era where there are no bold lines. This have never looked this way on Tony Hawk games. The first level, College, is designed to look more real and like the PS2 version, well, the fact of the matter is, it can never look anything like the PS2 version because it is PS1. The makers of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater have stupidly tried to expand PS1 graphics furthur than they can go. On the Alkatraz level, when you are going into a different area, you have to skate through a black pit that mysteriously takes you to the other side of where you are going, this does not look real. Another awful problem Tony Hawk 4 is having is one that all of the Tony Hawks have had, when you go to 2-player mode the levels get smaller. Even though this has always been a problem, it has never been this bad. I must admit that when i went to 2-player mode i thought my PS1 had defaulted, there is nowhere to skate. The sky disappears mysteriously and all the secret skate spots are gone. Another question i have been wondering is why does it say on this products description that you can 'Skich on the back of a car', let me ask this website one question: HOW DO YOU 'SKICH ON THE BACK OF A CAR' WHEN THERE ARE NO CARS! HOW DO YOU SKATE THROUGH TRAFFIC WHEN THERE IS NO TRAFFIC! These are bad marketing problems, if you didn't know better, you'd buy this game thinking you could do those things when you can't. And what the heck happened to the PRE-MADE SKATEPARKS. They are the same ones that were in Tony Hawk 2. I think that the Tony Hawk games have gone in a tragic decline since THPS2. Sony needs to understand that they should not keep bringing these games out for PS1. The majority of gamers have a PS2, X Box, or GameCube already so what is the point? I have listed how i think the Tony Hawk games for PS1 rank in order of how GOOD they are: 1. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater - The original and my favorite of the PS1 Tony Hawk games. 2. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 - Designed wonderfully, great level layout, tons of new features, awesome! 3. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 - New features, new design, not that many new options. 4. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 - Poor design, no new options or features, no new design, awful gameplay, not a good Tony Hawk.

I don't care what anyone says about this game! not even GuyWhoPlaysVideoGames could talk me out of getting this terrific game! (he's somewhere in the other reviews) I think it's great that those video game companys are putting xbox, gamecube, and PS2 games on playstation, it helps our parents who don't have much money get us what we want, even though most of us don't have all those new consoles, because they are WAY too expensive! we can still have some new games without having to spend so much money on so many little things like memory cards that in 3 years will be 5 bucks each!! so I want to thank all those companys and sony for helping give us not-so-rich-kids a little taste of the newest games on the market.
