Product Description

Tony Hawk has performed two legendary feats during his skateboarding career. In 1999, he pulled off the first 900--that's 2-1/2 rotations in midair--in skateboarding competition history. Around the same time, he contributed hundreds of motion-captured moves for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, originally released on the Sony PlayStation. The realism and compulsive fun of the game left virtual skaters blurry-eyed from marathon sessions, and now Nintendo 64 fans get to jump aboard and discover what the hype's all about.

Skating as the legendary gravity defier Tony Hawk or nine other pros, players work their way up the ranks in search of success. So what does it take to be the best? For starters, an encyclopedic memory of tricks--flips, grinds, slides, inverts, airs, grabs, kick-flips, and literally hundreds of other moves and combinations. Success also depends on taking full advantage of the ramps, obstacles, secret areas, half pipes, and other environmental toys scattered around the nine courses.

One or two players (in split-screen mode) race, rack up trick points, or skate through unique game variations on a variety of courses. And tunes belted out by the likes of Goldfinger, Dead Kennedys, and Primus keep skaters entertained as they attempt a 900 of their own. --Eric Twelker

Product Description

Ported by Edge of Reality, N64 owners received arguably the best version of the breakthrough skateboarding game. With the exception of a few minor features (video walls etc.) everything that made Tony Hawk so fun made it to the N64 game. The biggest difference is that it looks better. No jumpy, pixelated skaters this time around. The N64 game features smooth, crisp riders rolling and sliding around sharp environments with only the occasional dip in framerate. The c-buttons are a bit tougher on the fingers when you try some higher level tricks and combos, but that's all part of a days job for a hardcore gamer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Milestone for Nintendo 64, April 24, 2000

This review is from: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater (Game Cartridge)
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is one of the best games that ever came out on the Nintendo 64 system. Games like this don't come out too often. This game is definetly a huge milestone for the Nintendo 64 system. This game will be on the bestsellers list for many months. If you buy one game, buy this game. The graphics are top of the class and the reaaism is unbeatable. Give this game a try next time you go to rent a videogame. Trust me, you won't regret buying this game. You can choose between many superstar skaters such as Tony Hawk and Bucky Lasek. You can perform a huge amount of tricks such as kickflips, japan airs, ollies and a variety of grinds. The controls are easy. It only takes a few tries to become comfortable with the controls. There are many secret areas to perform awesome tricks in. There is a career mode in which you collect tapes in a variety of ways. This is definetly one of the top games in the history of the Nintendo 64 system.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Game in the World, March 14, 2000
By A Customer
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater (Game Cartridge)
I loved this video game! I have never played a game as good as Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. This game is about as fun as Golden Eye 007 and has even more replay value. I play it for hours and never get tired of it. I am not a skater and do not know a thing about skateboarding but this game is still very fun for me. In this game you get to choose between a bunch of different real skaters. After you pick a skater you choose a board from a number of real board designs. As you progress im the game you get even more boards to choose from. The point of the game is to collect 5 tapes in each level. You get these tapes by doing lots of tricks, doing certain tasks, and collecting things. The more tapes you get the more realistic levels (such as San Francisco) are openned up for you to play in. In 3 compitition levels instead of getting tapes you compete for medals. This is not all Tony Hawk's Pro Skater has though. It also has three different multiplayer games and a free play mode where you can just mess around. I played this game for hours and hours until my fingers hurt. This game is addicting, so play responsibly.
