4.0 out of 5 stars A great new talent in romance writing!
The spectacular thing is that this is author Eve Gaddy's first published book! Which means that she can only get better.
Trauma surgeon Marissa Fairfax is cool, calm, and self-possessed--even when she's kidnapped in her own hospital by a gun-wielding thug. But even Marissa can't escape being knocked unconscious when police officer Jack Corelli slips in a puddle...

3.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother with this edition
This edition of the book is missing part of just about every page. It made it difficult to read. I gave up about 10th of the way into the story. I could still tell what was happoening, but it was annoying. I skipped around in the book and found the problem throughout the story.

The spectacular thing is that this is author Eve Gaddy's first published book! Which means that she can only get better.
Trauma surgeon Marissa Fairfax is cool, calm, and self-possessed--even when she's kidnapped in her own hospital by a gun-wielding thug. But even Marissa can't escape being knocked unconscious when police officer Jack Corelli slips in a puddle of blood and knocks her out. As if being kidnapped and rescued at gunpoint is not enough, Marissa then finds she's being kept under mandatory police protection--under Jack Corelli's personal supervision. The sparks certainly fly, but it's author Eve Gaddy's subtle touch with characterization that will touch your heart. This one is a keeper.
And if the thought of a hard-driving heroine who is lethally efficient with a Porsche sportscar raises your blood pressure, then this is a book for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read!, January 3, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this because it was a free one and looked right up my alley. It started out a bit slow, but then most of the greatest books I've read do that. Anyways....it wasn't long before I couldn't put it down. Opposites attract, he is the protector, and she released that she doesn't have to do this alone anymore. It's full of tender affection, action, and leaves you with a warm, fuzzy feeling. I don't usually give freebie books a chance....but I'm glad I did. Great job Eve, great book. Please, buy it...you won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Two very nice characters, December 26, 2011

Head-of-trauma surgeon Marissa Fairfax hears a death-bed confession which puts her life in danger. Assigned to protect her before she can testify, Jack Corelli finds out that the seemingly cool and controlled woman is anything but.

Two very nice characters, both strong and tender, understanding and passionate. Eve Gaddy manages to show us the evolution of their relationship, from initial dislike, based on first impressions, to falling in love in an manner that is completely believable.

The mystery part of the plot adds a bit of interest but is not much of a surprise. This is a romance not a thriller.

The editing can be improved but it is not distracting and I did not find parts of the pages missing like another reviewer wrote. I had no difficulty following the plot and enjoyed the novel tremendously.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great "opposites attract", December 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I'm drawn to books where the romance is between two people who seem like opposites. That theme is dealt with beautifully in this book. The educated, elegant heroine seems the opposite of the impulsive, physical hero. But as they interact, the commonalities become more important than the conflicts. They're both people of integrity and strength, and they both operate well in a crisis.
This book is characterized both by deep characterization and effective writing. I really enjoyed it, and read it in one sitting.

I usually don't enjoy cop stories but this one is pretty good. It has likeable characters and a good plot line. It was one that kept me reading till I finished and it was an enjoyable read.
