In Too Deep by Dwayne Joseph is a story that will pull you in from page one. It follows the lives of three brothers on separate paths. The oldest brother, Randy, is dealing with baby mamma drama. His ex, Tina, will not get over the fact that he has moved on to form a lasting relationship with Monique. Tina does all that she can to break them up. Little does she know that it is not only putting a wedge between her and Randy, but also between her and her daughter, Jalisa. The middle brother, Abe, is battling the urges to have an affair. His wife, Nakiya, is suffering from a nerve illness that causes her so much pain he can barely touch her. When he runs into the arms of his boss, Taki, he gets a lot more than what he originally bargained for. Abe and his father disowned the youngest brother, Travis, when he announced at the dinner table that he was gay. Travis is now in an abusive relationship with his lover, Paul. Paul is married with two boys and living deep in the closet. Travis decides that it is time for Paul to choose which life he wants to live.

Joseph brings all the characters to life. In Too Deep has many twists and turns; you will not want to put this book down. I picked it up on my way to bed, then realized that it was 3:00 a.m. and I was FINISHED. I definitely recommend this book and cannot wait to read more from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOOOOOOVED IT!!!, September 14, 2007
By
This review is from: In Too Deep (Paperback)
Wow! What a read! This novel follows the lives of three brothers with more drama between them than any ordinary person could possibly handle. Randy is the oldest; he has a beautiful daughter with the ex-girlfriend from hell...Tina. He's in a relationship with his soulmate, the woman of his dreams, Monique. Monique has tried her best to be patient and understanding....but she's had it with Tina and her conniving, manipulating and hateful ways. It is very possible that in his efforts to handle Tina with kid gloves, Randy may lose the only other adult woman who has truly stolen his heart.
Meanwhile, youngest brother Travis is facing relationship drama of his own. His lover, Paul, has put him in the hospital again. And although Travis has tried to explain to brother Randy how stressful life can be for a gay man who is still in the closet, his brother Randy can simply not relate. But other than his mother and oldest brother, and Paul, Travis has no one. His brother Abe has not spoken to him since he announced his homosexuality, and his father has disowned him. So Travis has little to lose when he issues an ultimatum to his lover...with tragic, plot-twisting results.
Middle brother Abe has a successful career as a high-powered advertising executive. But his marriage to his beautiful wife Nakiya is floundering as she suffers from a debilitating physical illness. In steps Taki...Abe's boss, who is gorgeous, willing, and with as much to lose as Abe does. The two agree to a relationship built completely on the physical..and that works well until Taki announces that she is falling in love with him. What follows is a series of events that serve only to remind everyone involved that nothing is ever as it seems, that the grass is not always greener, and that sometimes we have to think of others rather than ourselves...no matter how difficult that may be to do.
This author has mastered the ability to move flawlessly between the first person narration of both men and women....he seems to have the thought patterns of both down to a science. Another excellent dramatic tale from an author who has NEVER disappointed me....Kudos.......

4.0 out of 5 stars I Was In to It, September 23, 2008
This review is from: In Too Deep (Paperback)
This fast-paced novel complete with twists and turns with so much irony I had to smile. Dwayne Joseph starts off with the drama between Randy's crazy baby mama Tina and his girlfriend Monique along with the saga of Abe's woes as he continues to juggle an affair with his married boss Taki while living in a life of lies with his ailing wife Nakyiah. How this book turned so shocking with all of the pieces connecting together floored me. I would like to have read a little more descriptive on the characters since they remained faceless throughout the book but overall a pretty deserving effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Remarkable, September 3, 2008
This review is from: In Too Deep (Paperback)
Inn Too Deep is OFF THE HOOK!
Dwayne Joseph did a phenomenal job painting a vivid description of each characters personality, preference, their likes and dislikes.
Each chapter is completed with its own jaw dropping bombshell.
The book is about 3 brothers who live very different lives, however are each dealing with life changing situations.

I really enjoyed the novel, I referred it to all of my girls to read. I look forward to his September release, Home Wrecker.

5.0 out of 5 stars A B~more Reader, May 26, 2008

This review is from: In Too Deep (Paperback)
Randy, Abe, and Travis may have grew up together as brothers but, as they got older, they grew apart as men. Randy can't seem to control his daughter's mother and her vindictive ways and as a result, it seems to wreak havoc on his relationship with Monique, the love of his life. Will he stop the "baby-mama drama" once and for all to salvage his relationship? Abe ventures into an illicit affair with his boss, Taki, not realizing that to her its more than just a sex. Meanwhile, his wife Nakiya is battling with neuralgia, a painful nerve disease, which Abe believes is the cause of the suffering of their marriage. Will he end this steaming hot affair with Taki and abide by his marriage vows, "for better or for worse...in sickness and in health...til' death do us part", before it ruins the life he has built with his wife?? Travis hit rock bottom ever since he came out of the closet with his gay lifestyle. Abe will not even acknowledge that he is his brother, his father disowned him the day he admitted his secret. The only family he has is Randy and his mother. Then he meets Paul, a man that says that he loves him but is not willing to leave his family for Travis or "come out of the closet" about his lifestyle. Will Travis realize that he can never be truly happy with Paul due to his reluctance to admitting that he is gay??
Dwayne Joseph has delivered the realest, most intense novel ever written "under his pen". I really enjoyed this novel because it talks about real life issues that people are struggling with in their lives. The married man that thinks that having an affair is more relieving than working on the problems in his marriage, the man who cannot move on with his life due to his childs mother not wanting to see him happy with anyone else, and the man who is afraid to admit that he is a homosexual because he may lose everything are all struggles that people are enduring everyday. This novel was EXCELLENT!

This review is from: In Too Deep (Paperback)
The Novel-lites read this book about two years ago. We agreed that this book was a good read. It was insightful, intriguing, and thought provoking. The stories are true-to-life form. The stories are about couples, all types of couples and their trials and tribulations, lies, failures, and triumphs. Some characters you'll cheer for, some you won't! The book would give any book club lots to talk about involving lots of controversy. Women, single or married, and men whio think they get away with lying will love this book. While this is the only book of Mr. Joseph's that the Novel-lites have read, we sincerely hope to read others. Keep doing your thing Dwayne. Congrats to Mr. Joseph on a well-written book.
