A must have for Motley Crue fans,
By A Customer
This review is from: Too Fast for Love (Audio CD)
I've always thought this was a great Crue album, but the addition of the extra tracks on the re-mastered version make it essential for Motley Crue fans. The album is fun because it's sleazy, raw and not nearly as polished as the other later albums that they made with the help of record label producers. The extra tracks are great and fit in perfectly with the rest of the album since they all have that early Motely sound. "Toast of the Town" and "Stick to Your Guns" are from their original demo single and they are real rockers. Even if you already have "Too Fast For Love" on cd, it is worth getting this remastered version for the extra songs!

Too bad for love,

This review is from: Too Fast for Love (Audio CD)
Before Motley signed with a major label, they recorded an amazing album called Too fast for love.Yes this one!Only the record company made them re-record the whole thing and it just doesn't work.Maybe it's because I am so used to the original version of the album that I am so disappointed in this one but really they should have stick to the REAL too fast for love.On this cd the mix is pityful, poor, the band doesn't have half the energy they had on the previous one. What a shame...the songs on too fast are some of the greatest CRUE compositions:Live Wire, Too FASt, On with the show...An explosion of glam/punk/metal! At least on this specific release, they had the descency to put the entire album-Stick to your guns appearing here as a bonus was originally the single to be but was cut from the re-recorded LP. It still is a great album but I will never understand why they needed to re-record it.

PURE PUNK-CRUE!!!,
By ALEX CANTU (Queretaro, MEX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Too Fast for Love (Audio CD)
When Motley Crue was recording this album I bet they didn't know what they were doing and what they were doing was a classic rock album that usually you don't on any band (not even punk bands). The high-point on the album is Mick Mars on the guitar. A lot of people spend most of their life getting this crunchy sound and they can't get it. Steve Vai can be a "virtuoso" on the guitar and Joe Satriani can show us all the scales in the world, but the sound on the guitar of this record is like a drill directly to your brain.I have bought this album like 3 or 4 times (I used it so many times that end up like an old pair of sneakers) and if I need to buy it one more time I'll buy it again as many times as I need to get this songs. I mean, living a life and don't hear LIVE WIRE, TOO FAST FOR LOVE, PUBLIC ENEMY #1, MERRY GO ROUND, ON WITH THE SHOW and the rest of the songs it's NO living at all. Do you travel a lot on your car??? Get this one. Not ONE song is bad.

WHAT ROCK AND ROLL IS ALL ABOUT,
By
This review is from: Too Fast for Love (Audio CD)
Simply put, this is a phenomenal rock and roll album. Not being the biggest Crue fan personally, I think I can say that if the only Crue album you own is this one, you're all set. Every song on this album, every song, is a masterwork. The guitars are meaty and bold, unlike therack-mounted sound of their subsequent records. I hate to say this, but Tommy Lee is the man on this record, he is a monster. And this album officially has, in my book, the best use of a cowbell in a drumset since Mountain's "Mississippi Queen". Really. Not a weak tune on the CD, and since they kept it short, it's all over too quickly. After the final blast of "Too Fast For Love" and the hanky-jerker ballad "On With the Show", you are left wanting more! And more you now get - the bonus tracks on this record are indispensable. "Tonight" is tight and rocking, yet gorgeously catchy. "Toast of the Town" is almost better than anything on the real album, a terrific song with a real rhythm kick in the pants and actual dynamics! That's the thing about the CRue on this record, every song has extreme dynamics, but in a Zep way, not the subsequent 90's-style "now I throw a tantrum" kind of loud-soft dynamic. In short, definitely a must-have record, if you like rock and roll

The Best Motley Crue Album Ever,
By "kingofrock379" (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Too Fast for Love (Audio CD)
This is definately the best Motley Crue album ever. It captures the Hollywood lifestyle that they were living at the time they recorded their classic debut. The songs are eqaul parts metal, punk, and glam but the album is 100% original and 100% Motley Crue. It is without a doubt the best Crue album and one of the best metal albums of all time. Even though the sound quality is not that good the amazing songs speak for themselves.Live Wire opens the album which is one of the most popular Motley Crue songs of all time. Vince's voice is in top form and Tommy Lee's drumming as always is purely amazing. Merry-Go-Round is another amazing song. That is one of my personal favorites by Motley Crue. The song also has a really cool guitar solo in it. Some other hilights of this truly amazing album are Starry Eyes, On with the Show, Come On and Dance, and and Take Me to the Top. If you already own this album I strongly suggest buying the remastered version of this album. The 4 unreleased songs put on the end of the album are truly amazing. Toast of the Town is the best of the unreleased songs. Tonight is also an amazing version of the Raspberries song. Stick to your Guns is also an amazing song about being true to yourself and not selling your soul to something you don't believe in just because it's trendy. Motley never had to worry about that because they created the trends. Another amazing song is Too Fast for Love with the alternate intro. I don't know why they left the intro off the album in the first place. It totally takes the song to another level. All in all Too Fast for Love is an amazing album that I reccommend anyone to buy weather you're a Motley fan or just like great music.

This album flat out rocks. My list of great metal albums is as follows: 1. Motley Crue-Too Fast For Love 2. Guns'n'Roses-Appetite For Destruction 3. Van Halen-Fair Warning 4. Dio-Holy Diver 4. Motley Crue-Too Fast For Love 5. Metallica-Master of Puppets. I'm not a big Motley Crue fan. I don't own any of their other albums. My friend used to play this album at the record store we worked at in Akron, OH called Quonset Hut. I teased him at first because it was "washed up hair metal." Then it grew on me. I usually listen to the Beatles and stuff like that. But he got me into some metal and here we are... This is easily one of my favorites of all time. Easily. If you like records that you can listen to in your car for a month or two straight, buy this. I listen to it for three sometimes, without ever taking it out... Rock on.

The first and maybe the best,
By
This review is from: Too Fast for Love (Audio CD)
Motley Crue's "Too Fast for Love" (1982) is one of the band's finest albums, as well as one of their most overlooked. Originally released independently in 1981, the album was remixed and released the following year on Elektra Records. Although the Crue wouldn't break through and hit it big until the following year with their landmark "Shout at the Devil," (1983) "Too Fast for Love" remains a cult/fan favorite.
"Too Fast for Love" does and does not have the Crue's sound that most people are familiar with. "Too Fast for Love," although quite pop sounding at times, does not sound like a pop-metal album, the way their other 80s albums do. While it certainly has the classic Motley Crue sound and feel; these songs sound rawer, more punkish, than the bands later work. Overall it is the band's least commercial, least polished album. Comparatively speaking, "Too Fast for Love" is like a diamond in the rough. While "Dr. Feelgood" (1989) is a great album, no doubt, the songs are sophomoric and tailor-made for MTV. Although "Dr. Feelgood" is a definitive album from that era, it's somewhat contrived. "Too Fast for Love," in contrast, sounds far more dangerous, genuine, and lived in. When the band recorded "Dr. Feelgood," they were complacent multi-millionaires and on top of the rock world. When the band recorded "Too Fast for Love" they were struggling and hungry. The songs on "Too Fast for Love" reflect that. While most Motley Crue albums have four or five very strong songs, with the rest being good, but not great, every song on "Too Fast for Love" is memorable and well written. As the cliché goes, it's all killer and no filler. Calling "Too Fast for Love" a pure "punk" album in the truest sense of the word wouldn't exactly be accurate. But there is definitely an element of punk to the album. It's probably most comparable to Generation X or Billy Idol's early solo albums. In other words, it's not hard-core punk, but assessable punk, with a fair amount of pop-content. On thing that immediately strikes the listener is how young and hungry the band sounds. Motley Crue never sounded as good as they did on their classic debut. They really sound like their ready to take on the world. These are Nikki Sixx's best penned songs. Although always a gifted songwriter, on subsequent albums he would at times try too hard, or try to embrace a trend. There is nothing contrived or pretentious about "Too Fast for Love." The songs are genuinely dangerous and come straight from the heart. Vince Neil sounds fully fearsome, an indisputable street punk. Mick Mar's playing is top-notch and gives all the songs a real vitality. Tommy Lee's solid pounding is stellar as always, even when he was just a kid. "Live Wire" is probably the most well-known song on this disc. Fast and furious with a great hook, it's a good way to start off the album. The up-tempo "Come on and Dance" is one of the album's more popish songs and keeps up the momentum. "Public Enemy #1" is one of the Crue's most underappreciated songs. Fast and highly melodic, it's an anthem that epitomizes youth and rebellion. The album slows down a bit for the bleak "Merry-Go-Round." Young and poor at the time, when Vince Neil asks "am I going down?" he meant it, which makes the songs sound all the more real. "Take me to the Top" and the Motley staple "Piece of your Action" are fast paced and infectious. The strength in the former is its melody, and the strength in the latter is its fierceness. "Starry Eyes" has an almost hypnotic intro and a haunting chorus. The album's title track "Too Fast for Love" is another anthem, akin to Skid Row's "Youth Gone Wild," which was recorded almost a full decade later. The grand finale, mini-epic, tragic "On with the Show" is a perfect way to conclude the album. I really don't have any bones to pick with "Too Fast for Love." From start to finish, the songs are all superb. Although not as well known as some of the bands later work, it surpasses much of it. "Too Fast For Love" stands besides "Shout at the Devil," and "Motley Crue" (1994), as the band's edgiest, most genuine, rocking music. The reissue of "Too Fast for Love" has many bonus songs that should be of interest to fans. The upbeat "Toast of the Town" and the popish "Tonight" are up-to-par with the rest of the album's songs. It's great that they have finally seen the light of day. The mid-tempo "Stick to your Guns" is good, but not quite as strong as the other tracks. "Too Fast For Love" with the alternative intro is cool, and is a nice bonus.

Auspicious debut plus extra tracks,

Too Fast For Love is my favorite Crue album after Shout at the Devil. On their debut, they sound more like an LA glam version of the Ramones than the new Van Halen. There is no filler on this CD. Just pure raw energy: punk attitude grafted onto a metallic lust for life. The big question is whether you should rebuy the CD for the 4 bonus tracks. Depends. If your'e a rabid Crue historian or really like the band's early sound, then yes. If you are more into the raucous party anthems of later albums like Girls & Feelgood then you can probably live without this. Toast of the Town and Stick to Your Guns were (I think) the 2 sides on the 1st single ever released by the band. They already had the attitude down pat but grew a lot as musicians by the time their album came out. Tonight is an OK cover of a Rasberries song but nothing like their incredible remake of Helter Skelter. Their is also an original version of the title track with a slow ballad intro. Too Fast For Love is a must have for any glam/ metal fan. The Crucial Crue version is for those who love the band's early days or just got to have everything Crue.

the crue as musical influences?!,
By
This review is from: Too Fast for Love (Audio CD)
The first time I heard this album was at a keg party in the early '80's and having had too much beer I thought the record was playing at the wrong speed. No, he really sings like that. After laughing my *** off I actually listened and although it was against my hardcore/punk sensibilities, I had to admit I actually liked it. It took me awhile to understand where the Crue was coming from. They are part of a musical tradition that includes the New York Dolls, Kiss, Aerosmith and even Sweet and the Sex Pistols. To my knowledge they were also one of the first glam rock bands to detune their guitars, giving them a heavier sound and enablling Vince Neil to hit them castrato high notes. Rock on dudes, this one is solid from back to front.
