5.0 out of 5 stars Great New Discovery
I just bought this book for my son's 8th birthday. He's a fairly average reader so we're going through it together, and we both just love the story and characters, who are of varying ages and personalities. The book captures your attention right off with the common problem of being taken in by a TV commercial.

I just bought this book for my son's 8th birthday. He's a fairly average reader so we're going through it together, and we both just love the story and characters, who are of varying ages and personalities. The book captures your attention right off with the common problem of being taken in by a TV commercial.

We love the varying type styles, illustrations and fun descriptions. We just popped onto amazon.com to learn more, and are excited to see so many titles to collect. The reading level is about age 9 or so, but the interest range is definitely at least 7-11. Also, my son is just learning about dialogue, and this story is great for reinforcing that, as well as increasing his reading vocabulary. It may not be fine literature, but it's fun and fresh and full of inoffensive charm, which is harder to come by for boys of this age than for girls.

4.0 out of 5 stars Inviting story and colorful text with pictures, July 26, 2008
I found my daughter need a little pull to get her into chapter books, even though she is an advanced reader. I think this is partly because she is so visual. Most early chapter books have little color and few photos. These books are the exception.

Fun fonts with lots of color and colored pictures. It really is inviting to the child.

Children should really read the Geronimo Stilton series - the rodent is just so adventurous!

I do love the way it is laid out. The fun is so special when you place 2 language versions side by side so that young children can compare them. This is a great way to get them interested to learn a foreign language as well.

Try Geronimo if you don't see your kinds interested in reading - you'd be surprised by the charm of this cheesy mouse.

I started reading the Geronimo Stilton books to my 7 year old son to try to get him more interested in reading. The books are well written. My sons enjoys books, but the more of them you read the more you realize that Geronimo Stilton is not a good infulence. We curently on book #9 and this it no more.

Geronimo Stilton is constantly complaining and wining. He is pushed around and manipulated by his sister, his cousin, and to a certain extent his sweet little nephew. The books are very formulaic. In almost every book I have read so for our hero, Geronimo Stilton, is dranged into an adventure kicking and screaming like a two year old throwing a fit. He eventually has fun in the end but on the way he excessly complains and wines the entire time. I have never read any childrens book before with phrase "I hate .." in it so many times. If you want a positive role infulence on your child through reading this isn't it.

5.0 out of 5 stars the yeti, June 19, 2009

The following review is by Isabella (6 yr):

"when my old friend professor von volt called to ask for help i agreed immediately even though it meant trekking halfway around the world to mouse everest the trip was long and dangerous. i almost froze my tail off along the way.and then i was kidnapped by a yeti yes it was truly an extraordinary adventure."

Parental comment: We as parents have added our comments onto these reviews. In total' this series is a great group of book to help the young readers skills. Also the later editions have more depth to the stories and anectdotal footnotes. Bebeficial toward reading exercizes. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great books for kids, October 6, 2011
Geronimo Stilton is the editor of the Rodent's Gazette on Mouse Island. He is a conservative "fraidy mouse" who hates traveling, which makes it all the more hilarious when he ends up having adventures around the world. The drama he puts on when things go wrong is very amusing. It is hard not to like Geronimo when he is a bit of an underdog in his family. His grandfather, the owner of the paper, is extremely mean to him, his cousin Trap plays practical jokes on him and teases him at every opportunity, and his sister is the adventurous, fun loving family favorite. He adores his nephew, Benjamin, which is especially endearing to kids.

The format of the book is really fun. There are great illustrations throughout and different fonts to make certain words stand out. It is visually appealing and a great way for kids to move to older chapter books.

My eight year old son has read every one of the books he can get his hands on at our local libraries and I just finished this book with my 5 year old daughter. Even I enjoy reading the books with my kids! The adventures are a lot of fun and imaginative.

Our son loves Geronimo, so every time that we finish to read one, I have the other one and I giving to him as a AWARD! Every night we read this book. The think that I really like about this books is that some words are with different printing, and this help for spelling. We would like to found the figures of Geronimo, but looks like they are selling just in Italy. Please bring Geronimo Stilton to America!!!

I am never sure whether to praise the humor, the unique typography, the illustrations, or the educational aspects of Geronimo Stilton stories the most. All these dimensions are powerful sources of fun and fancy in I'm Too Fond of My Fur!

Let's look at the humor first . As the book opens, Geronimo falls under the spell of a television pitchmouse and decides he's about to lose all of his hair. The solution? It's a "miracle lotion" you put all over your fur while you wear a very silly helmet. "As if in a trance, I r e a c h e d for the phone and dialed the number on the screen: 1-555-GROW-FUR." Before he knows it, he's bought 12 bottles of the rare "miracle lotion." Minutes later a goofy looking delivery mouse arrives on Rollerblades holding a package. Writing the check, he realizes he spent as much as a whole year's worth of cheese for this much money. The delivery mouse pats his own head of thick, curly fur and says, "I'm not just a delivery mouse." he grinned. "I'm a client! I was as bald as a fresh ball of mozzarella before I started using this product!"

Unless you have never seen the typography before, you will be amazed to see sentences about smiles shaped in a wide u across the page, "curly" done in curly letters, "QUICK" as dark, bold, red letters slanted right, and "speak up" in huge, bold, black letters. What a delight it would be to learn to read with these visual cues.

The illustrations in this book include a woolly mammoth in a block of ice, Geronimo being held up by a yeti, Geronimo doing a pratfall, Sherpa guides, and the most amazing machines. My favorite is of the television pitchmouse.

Although not as heavy duty as many of the later books in the series, this one has plenty of good educational material starting with being skeptical about television commercials! There's a trip to Kathmandu in the heart of Nepal to climb Chomolungma (better known in this book as Mouse Everest).

As usual, Geronimo has to do a lot of things that frighten him, but he bears up with as good an attitude as he can. He also has to keep a secret. Can you keep the secret, too?

Have a ball . . . and keep your eyes open for something you're not supposed to see!

A Kid's Review
From the Himalayas to Mouseland, there's a phone call. Soon Geronimo grabs his family and set out to help Professor Von Valt. While trying to help him, he is captured by a yeti! While trying to escape, he finds a yeti cub! In this book you'll see how crazy Geronimo is. If you like traveling this is perfect for you.
