Wonderful and Informative book,
By A Customer
This review is from: Too Good to Be Threw : The Complete Operations Manual for Consignment Shops (Spiral-bound)
This is a great book for anyone who owns a consignment shop, or who is thinking about opening one. It covers in detail all stages of planning, finding a location, arranging the store, tracking consignments, advertising, marketing, employees, and more. The book is very well written, easy to read, and nicely laid out. It has lots of helpful hints. Nice appendix with lots of additional resources. This book was well worth the high price. If you are a store owner, this will pay for itself in no time!

This review is from: Too Good to Be Threw : The Complete Operations Manual for Consignment Shops (Spiral-bound)
Hi, I'm Kate Holmes, the author of this manual and many other how-to books on the resale and consignment industry. TGtbT gets reviews like "this is the resale bible!" and "the best invention since the hanger".I'm thrilled to announce the 20th Anniversary Edition of Too Good to be Threw, the Complete Operations Manual for Resale & Consignment Shops, now including even more info such as the Resalers' Financial Survey, previously available only at additional cost on my web site. This NEW (Spring 2008) edition is what you will receive direct from me when you order your copy. It now has an entire chapter on Buying Outright, discussions on buyers' fees, Preferred Consignor Clubs, Switching seasons, and more. THIS is the manual you need. No generalities but real, specific, down-to-earth advice on opening and operating your own resale and/or consignment shop, no matter what merchandise you plan to carry! Thanks! Best wishes on your business! (PS Despite what Amazon has generated above, the manual is most definitely AVAILABLE!)-----Kate Holmes

EXCEPTIONAL BOOK!,

I am in the process of opening a consignment store and this book has helped SO MUCH to understand what all is involved from a 360-degree approach to a consignment business; with advise on advertising, where to buy store equipment, how to arrange merchandise & window displays, using simplified software, store layout, and much much more! It's step-by-step with further guidance from her website, where you can ask questions and learn consignment from others in the business! She uses humor and her own experience with this book -which makes for easy reading. It's simple and it's real! This book has given me knowledge about what to look for and what to look-out for -before either one happens & to know the difference. This book is worth the money to get an inside look at what you could do with a consignment shop!

Although I already had my shop open for a few months, I still decided to spend the money on this book... and I am soooo glad I did! We got wonderful ideas and detailed instructions from this manual! Many "How To" books are very vague or offer ideas that aren't practical for the mainstream readers, but this book offered ideas that are usuable for every type of consignment shop in every type of region. I have seen an increase in my sales since implementing Kate's strategies.

The book is great for getting an idea of how to start a succesful thrift store. It helped me realize that in my area I can make more doing what I am already doing for a living. This book has some great suggestions that would crossover to any biz.
