5.0 out of 5 stars BG's Best Album Since Chopper City In The Ghetto, December 11, 2009
This review is from: Too Hood 2 Be Hollywood (Audio CD)
BG aka BGizzle has finally returned to the rap game with his long overdue and highly anticipated 11th solo album. Too Hood 2 To Be Hollywood is BG's first album since 2006. In Hip Hop years that's an eternity because nowadays fans have short term memory. And with an impending incarceration (can the rappers stay our of jail please???? Gucci, T.I., Lil Wayne, Lil Boosie, and now BG), he's managed to get the album out in good time and under his own direction. Even though he had a few horrible group albums that came out between 2006 and now, he is now officially back & better than ever.

BG is focused on this album, the lyrics and flow have all tightened up since his last album. Releasing somewhat quietly (I haven't heard on the radio or seen a video for any of these songs), the album makes a big impact on the listener. I will tell you that I was surprised at how good the album actually is. BG is once again captivating on the mic and his distinct rough voice and southern drawl is in full effect on this album. The production is vintage New Orleans, with their signature bounce coupled with just enough southern gangsta funk that will have you nodding your head and jamming. It should be no surprise either as Mannie Fresh (former Cash Money producer) and KLC (former No Limit producer) show up quite often on this release. BG makes it seem effortless as he glides through every track with the hunger and passion we haven't seen or heard in nearly a decade (at least on a consistent basis throughout an album).

He gets back with his old crew, the legendary Hot Boy$ (Lil Wayne, Juvenile) for their for first collaboration in a LOOOONNGG time. Mannie Fresh is here, as well as T.I. and Trey Songz. Owe Me Some Money is a weird track because it features Soulja Slim, Lil Boosie & C-Murder. Soulja Slim was gunned down a few years ago (RIP), C-Murder is in jail for the rest of his life for murder, Lil Boosie is set to serve 4 years in prison for violating probation and now BG is currently serving for a weapons charge. It's just kind of eerie.

Continuing with the "Too Hood To Be Hollywood" theme, the album is executive produced by yet another incarcerated rapper Mr. Clifford Harris aka T.I. (currently serving for purchasing army guns). With all that said, you should know the content of the album. Gangsta music. The difference between this and other albums of the same nature is BG's lyrical prowess and flow. He's a great and legendary rapper and if more proof is needed, he has 11 mainstream solo albums, many hit singles and features, and continued success for over a decade.

Too Hood 2 Be Hollywood is a modern classic and BG's best album in a decade since he released Chopper City In The Ghetto (which featured the highly controversial Bling Bling). Fans of BG, southern music, and hip hop should definitely check out this album as they won't be disappointed one bit. 5 stars.

*If you buy from BB you get 4 quality bonus tracks that don't deviate from the album's formula and continue the goodness found on the album. Also as another reviewer stated...Young Jeezy is listed on the back and in the credits but is not actually on the version from BB...so don't get your hopes up. I dl'ed that version a while back and it's not something so amazing that you must seek out so you aren't missing too much. It's not a surprise either as quite a few albums I've purchased this year have been screwed up some kind of way. It doesn't take away from the quality though*

5.0 out of 5 stars The REAL KING OF NEW ORLEANS is back!!!!, December 8, 2009
This review is from: Too Hood 2 Be Hollywood (Audio CD)
BG has never sold out to the main stream he keeps it gangsta on every album. When he signed to Atlantic records I was kinda scared the lable would make him water his music down to get radio spins but he didnt he kept it street and thats why we love him down here in New Orleans. This cd is a straight banger! If your sick of hearing bubblegum rappers this is the perfect rehab for your ears!
