5.0 out of 5 stars It started here...
Rod Temperton, do you know the name? If not, try this: Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones, that's right, the man that wrote most of the hits for M.J. on Off the Wall, Thriller, Bad, etc., was none other than Heatwave's Rod Temperton. He wrote all the songs on this cd too. GET IT FOOL!

2.0 out of 5 stars Slow Songs Predominate
The track "Boogie Nights" is a classic, but the rest of the album doesn't quite measure up. Most of it is too slow for my taste and I wouldn't really call it a Disco essential. The sound quality is a bit muffled as well; a digitally remastered reissue would help a lot.

Old School at its best! I was 8th grade when this dropped, and it is still kickin. Heavily sampled, used and abused. These days you can really tell a records influence by the number of samples that were stolen. I like 'em either way. This is a very good record, start to finish. R&B big bands need to come back!

As a boy, coming of age, in the late 70s, Heatwave provided a lot of stability in my life. This underrated band had a great rythmn and funky riffs that anyone could groove to. I recommend this disc for anyone that wants to go back even for just a second.

5.0 out of 5 stars Memorable Album and Time, February 19, 2010
This review is from: Too Hot to Handle (Audio CD)
I remember when I first heard "Boogie Nights" on the radio, and immediately wanted to buy the album based on the single. The whole album moves, from groove oriented funk - "Ain't No Half Steppin,'"Super Soul Sista," etc. to beautiful ballads such as "Always and Forever," and "Sho Nuff Must Be Love." Back in the day, I did catch Heatwave live, opening up for Rufus and Chaka Kahn, and they were exciting to watch on stage. Not only were they a tight soulful band, but Johnnie Wilder and Keith Wilder sang with conviction. I thought they would have gone on to greater success, and was sorry to hear that Johnnie Wilder was paralyzed in an auto accident (he still sang on their studio recordings/and sadly passed away in 2006). The first Heatwave LP is truly a classic, and I hope "Hot Property," "Candles," and "Current" are released on CD someday.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the great albums of the 70's from ANY genre., September 30, 2007

This is simply one of the most memorable albums of the 70's, period. It also showed the great range of the band, from tender ballads to smokin' dance numbers, with the incredible vocals of Johnny Wilder as the active ingredient. This album came out when I was a teenager and this great music has never really left me.

I don't know how many album Heatwave released, but I do know this one. It's one of their best. You can hear variations in their compositions: dance, ballad, love, etc. It's never boring listening to this album. I hope they'll release othe albums like Candles, which has my fav tracks All I Am and Dreaming You
