Book Description

Angie Amalfi Mysteries February 28, 2006

After talking her way into a job on a pompous, third-rate chef's radio call-in-show, Angie Amalfi has visions of a new career to go along with her hot, new romance with Paavo Smith, a gorgeous homocide detective.

When a successful and much-envied restauranteur is poisoned however, Angie finds the case far more interesting than trying to make her pretentious boss sound good. Some cooks might shy away from such a sizzling case, but Angie can take the heat and stay in the kitchen.

Review

"Joanne Pence is a master chef." -- -- Mystery Scene

Angelina Amalfi is a rich, pampered lady. Paavo Smith is a homicide detective. While working on a case, Paavo saves Angie's life and is shot in the process. Feeling responsible, Angie takes care of Paavo during his recuperation and falls in love. Paavo has seen the beating relationships between cops and their spouses can take and he is skeptical about getting involved himself. Too Many Cooks is a murder mystery surrounding a number of San Francisco restaurant owners. Paavo is investigating the murder of one of the owners when Angie gets involved. Angie comes from a wealthy family, and because she travels in the same circles as these wealthy restaurateur's she feels she can be of help to Paavo. Angie has a knack for getting into mischief and has a tendency to hinder Paavo rather than help him. It is soon clear that the restaurant business has nothing to do with the murders, and before they find the true mystery behind these grizzly crimes, Paavo and Angie risk not only their lives but their new found feelings. Too Many Cooks leans more to the mystery than the romance, but Ms. Pence includes just enough of both to keep either reader satisfied. This is the second book in a series involving Angelina Amalfi. This first, Something's Cooking was an April '93 release and is currently in it's second printing.Ms. Pence creates a who-dun-it with a satisfying dose of romance! Just the right recipe to satisfy a hungry reader! Ms. Pence is a warm, witty, talented author in the field of romantic mystery.Claire Haynes -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. 5.0 out of 5 stars Love this series!, August 6, 2000

This review is from: Too Many Cooks: An Angie Amalfi Mystery (Angie Amalfi Mysteries) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the second book in the Angie Amalfi series and I loved it as much as I did the first. Granted, Angie is a spoiled rich girl, but she is so loving and caring and loves Paavo so much that I really enjoy her. The combination of mystery and romance is wonderful. The mystery kept me guessing right up to the end. When I finish one of these books, I have a fulfilled feeling because all of the loose ends are tied up neatly, but there is a desire to continue reading. So, I purchased all of the rest of the books in the series so I can catch up with everything happening in Angie's life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Appropriate title for great sequel, September 23, 2003

This review is from: Too Many Cooks: An Angie Amalfi Mystery (Angie Amalfi Mysteries) (Mass Market Paperback)
Too many cooks do indeed spoil the broth (and a few other things) in this second mystery in the Angie Amalfi series.
Angie is as naive, spoiled, annoying and hopelessly in love as ever, which for some odd reason I haven't figured out yet, turns her into an extremely endearing and likable character. Paavo and his closet full of childhood hangups is starting to get on my nerves - but let's face it - is there a woman in the world that can't sympathize with Angie in the rollercoaster romance department? While the actual crime investigation plays second fiddle in this book, you just have to read on to find out how the relationship between the two "love birds" develops.
All in all a fun, fast-paced book that is hard to put down. Highly recommended to cozy mystery fans!

Joanne Pence has created some wonderful characters in her Angie and Paavo series. I hope she keeps them coming because each one gets better than the previous one. The first one was a #10 and each book after that has not disappointed. I would highly recommend this series.
