DOGS,DOGS AND MORE DOGS,
By A Customer
This review is from: Too Many Dogs (Step-Into-Reading, Step 1) (Paperback)
My son is just beginning reading and loves to read this book. Words are easy to sound out, simple words that a five year old boy can practice with. In addition, he loves the dogs! There are so many dogs to learn about. We have taken the book to the dog park and tried to find the many dogs in this book. When we find a dog that matches, he gets so excited, because now he can read the name of the dog. The book is colorful and entertaining for children. As a parent,I can enjoy watching my son learn and have fun doing it.

horrible word selection for beginners,

This book had terrible word selection for a level 1 book for the beginning reader. Here is a sampling of words in the book: Sprinkly, wrinkly, scratchy, patchy, lappy, licky, howly, growly.
Seriously - many of the words were not even real words! This was very frustrating as a parent watching my early reader try to sound out words that are not even real. Does NOT instill confidence! Does NOT enhance word recognition! It was a nice topic (dogs), and short sentences (2-4 words) - but when half the words are pseudo-words, it really misses the point of introductory reading books. I would NOT recommend this book to an early reader in the least.

Daughter Loves this book,

This review is from: Too Many Dogs (Step-Into-Reading, Step 1) (Paperback)
I bought this book for my three year old daughter. She loves us to read books to her and I wanted to get a book that I thought it would keep her attention. The sentences are simple for the beginner or pre-readers. The illustrations are great. My daughter loves talking about the different doggies she sees in the book.

My kids absolutely LOVE this book. I have had to buy several copies since it's paperback and they end up ruining the books by reading them so much. It reads well, has excellent illustrations, and is perfect for young children. The only downfall is that it's paperback. The next copy I buy I'm planning on laminating.

I may soon have to order another copy, because my students have almost loved this book to death! On one level it is very simple, teaching -er and -est and some rhyming adjectives. On another level there is the story of a man who is grilling. He goes inside for a moment and dogs come from everywhere to eat his food, sit in his lounge chair and swim in his above-ground pool. When he discovers that they have eaten all his food, he shouts, "Doggies please get OUT!". All the dogs leave, except for the smallest of the small who grabs the last scrap of food and runs away, exclaiming, "Woof!". The pictures are wonderful. I don't mind reading this book a hundred times a day!

Even though this book was fun for ME too read to my son. I really don't encourage this for begginer readers. Not alot of sight words and only brought on fustration. Other wise all the "scroufy" dogs are cute.

Too Many Dogs and Too Much Fun,

This is a great little story that challenges, rhymes, and has a ton of fun. If your child loves dogs and their mischievous ways they will enjoy reading this book. I read this for my daughter's 1st Grade class and they "howled" laughing and I was the #1 Dad for a whole day! You will be doing yourself a favor getting your little one this story.

Child is able to figure out most of the words by looking at the pictures. Better than some of the other books.
