This is a much needed, sensible book to remind us what true medical treatment ought to be about. Dr. Gottfried has boldly, but graciously, pointed out many excesses, problem areas, and improper reasons for our sky-high health care costs. He has documented his findings extensively and is not bombastic or iconoclastic -- he just gives the facts and his conclusions. I know him, as he is my doctor, and I'm grateful for his common-sense approach to medicine. I'm not sure his "solutions" are really sufficient, but his analysis of the problems is outstanding. He is not doing this for fame or fortune, but out of a demonstrably-evident desire to share what he has learned.

This is an excellent no-nonsense book which details the facts regarding the proliferating number of drugs and tests to which we are subject. It is a handy reference guide to use the next time your physician suggests a medication or test. In many cases it will make you think twice before consenting.

Dr.Gottfried's book is well researched, well presented and thorough... he takes a very practical approach to highlighting major areas where patients and doctors need to use science and common sense to make the best decisions possible... told from the perspective of an experienced, caring primary care physician, Dr. Gottfried shares a perspective that any adult would be wise to learn from
highest possible recommendation!

Drugs are powerful and can save lives, but too much can kill you - literally. "Too Much Medicine: A Doctor's Prescription for Better and More Affordable Health Care" is physician Dennis Gottfried's suggestions for improving the world of health care through a more thoughtful and cautious approach to medicine. Arguing that profit-oriented doctors are ruining medicine by prescribing unneeded procedures and drugs, and that such doctors risk the lives of their patients for more money, Gottfried says that the right type of government regulation can help America's medical woes. "Too Much Medicine" is an interesting entry into the health care debate, highly recommended.
