Book Description

May 12, 2009 4 and upP and up
Maisie thinks Kayla is perfect. She’s pretty and thin, has cool clothes, gets good grades, and she’s a star on the soccer field. But is Kayla happy? The more Maisie gets to know Kayla, the more she begins to question whether being perfect is really so wonderful. In Too Perfect, acclaimed speaker and child advocate Trudy Ludwig explores the relentless and destructive drive for perfection, and the freedom that comes from accepting one’s self.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Author!, June 1, 2009
By

This review is from: Too Perfect (Hardcover)
Trudy Ludwig does an incredible job capturing the REAL life experiences of young people today! She addresses issues of various types of bullying, pressures of not being good enough, and overall friendship issues. I am a school counselor and I use her books regularly in classroom lessons and in individual sessions with stduents. I see their faces light up when they realize that "somebody 'gets' me!" At times in classroom lessons I could hear a pin drop! Pick up any of her books TODAY! I have enjoyed her books so much, I have invited her to come present at our school next fall, and I can't wait!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great message for girls..., May 4, 2009
By

This review is from: Too Perfect (Hardcover)
This book illustrates clearly how children--especially girls--can get the message that they have to be perfect to be accepted. It shows how perfectionism can erode a young girl's self-esteem. What I liked most about Too Perfect was that the author provided some simple, yet effective, suggestions for building self worth and overcoming perfectionism. I wish I'd had this book when I was a chubby little girl struggling with these issues!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, June 8, 2009
By
Cathy ML (Portland, OR) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Too Perfect (Hardcover)
This BOOK is perfect.

It's so exhausting, for everyone, children and parents alike to think they have to be perfect, and that everyone around them, or many people around them, are perfect. Perfection is not attainable, and who wants it to be anyhow? This book is great for kids. It debunks the myth that starts so early that we should strive to be perfect or that anyone else out there has a perfect life. The story is engaging and real and sincere. I used to be a teacher and I can't tell you what a fantastic discussion this would have been in my classroom of kids. Kids need to read about this stuff and talk about it - and to hear the truths from other kids around them. I can just imagine the discussion...kids talking about how they think they have to have perfect clothes and hair and - the one I truly dislike intensely - the perfect weight. And, I know there would be kids in class who would say that other kids thought they were perfect, and they could discuss how they weren't...Loved the book. Good buy for parents, good buy for teachers.
