Incredible Author!,
By mj (Hermiston, OR United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Too Perfect (Hardcover)
Trudy Ludwig does an incredible job capturing the REAL life experiences of young people today! She addresses issues of various types of bullying, pressures of not being good enough, and overall friendship issues. I am a school counselor and I use her books regularly in classroom lessons and in individual sessions with stduents. I see their faces light up when they realize that "somebody 'gets' me!" At times in classroom lessons I could hear a pin drop! Pick up any of her books TODAY! I have enjoyed her books so much, I have invited her to come present at our school next fall, and I can't wait!

A great message for girls...,
By J.S. (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Too Perfect (Hardcover)
This book illustrates clearly how children--especially girls--can get the message that they have to be perfect to be accepted. It shows how perfectionism can erode a young girl's self-esteem. What I liked most about Too Perfect was that the author provided some simple, yet effective, suggestions for building self worth and overcoming perfectionism. I wish I'd had this book when I was a chubby little girl struggling with these issues!

Excellent,
By Cathy ML (Portland, OR) - See all my reviews

This BOOK is perfect.
It's so exhausting, for everyone, children and parents alike to think they have to be perfect, and that everyone around them, or many people around them, are perfect. Perfection is not attainable, and who wants it to be anyhow? This book is great for kids. It debunks the myth that starts so early that we should strive to be perfect or that anyone else out there has a perfect life. The story is engaging and real and sincere. I used to be a teacher and I can't tell you what a fantastic discussion this would have been in my classroom of kids. Kids need to read about this stuff and talk about it - and to hear the truths from other kids around them. I can just imagine the discussion...kids talking about how they think they have to have perfect clothes and hair and - the one I truly dislike intensely - the perfect weight. And, I know there would be kids in class who would say that other kids thought they were perfect, and they could discuss how they weren't...Loved the book. Good buy for parents, good buy for teachers.

Fabulous!,
By DC (Portland, OR) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Too Perfect (Hardcover)
What a fabulous book! As a society, we have been sending the wrong message to our children--especially our girls--for too long. And speaking from personal experience, the drive for perfection is nothing but destructive. It erodes self-esteem, promotes a judgemental attitude, encourages unhealthy competition, and can lead to serious physical and psychological problems. Finally, Trudy Ludwig has given us a message we can be proud of, encouraging and promoting acceptance and appreciation. She writes a story that both children and adults can identify with, and she gives parents and mentors solid and realistic tools to begin this incredibly importatnt discussion. What a difference this book can make. I only wish it had been written sooner!

The PERFECT addition to a school counselor's library,
By
This review is from: Too Perfect (Hardcover)
Trudy Ludwig's latest work "Too Perfect" is a must have for school counselors and parents who are faced with addressing perfectionism in young students at a growing pace. Trudy paints a clear and yet troubling picture of how the drive to be perfect can be a significant burden to children. She also delivers a message to adults about how we unconsciously give messages that reinforce perfectionism through our words and actions. My students are becoming very familiar with Trudy Ludwig's books and parents constantly rave about the right-on-target lessons presented through these stories. I fully expect my elementary school aged students to read "Too Perfect" and Trudy's other books to their children someday.

It is not often that a story directed to children offers so much insight in an engaging and entertaining way. Children will learn some of the deepest lessons about being human through a very simple yet very well elaborated story.
I didn't like the art of the book so much. I thought it could be better and more in line with the quality of its contents. But it doesn't mean that it causes any damage to the message that this work so clearly and well conveys. All in all, a great book that I highly recommend to all children. Parents will be more than happy and they themselves will certainly learn a lot from it too.
